PRISM recently held its annual Introduction to Forensics seminar, designed to whet the appetites of underclassmen at JJC and our partner community colleges. A total of 18 students attended the seminar, which gave them a better understanding of what forensic science entails as well as got them thinking now about a major track and an area of research. To read more about the seminar details visit our events page on the PRISM website. For more pictures from this event, click here.
John Jay's 9/11 Commemoration to Include PRISM Student Carlos Texeira
September 11 is a day full of significance for all of us here at John Jay: more than a decade ago on that date we lost 67 students and alumni. John Jay College will hold a ceremony in Memorial Hall during community hour on Thursday, 9/11. The ceremony will feature poetry and music as well as the reading of the names of our 67 fallen heroes. As the names are read, 67 students from every John Jay student organization and program will pay their respects by lighting a candle in their names. Our own Carlos Texeira will be representing PRISM at that event. We hope you can join us that afternoon to remember our heroes.

Jiwon Seo is the Recipient of Competitive Scholarship
Jiwon Seo, PRISM senior, was recently awarded a competitive $2,000 scholarship from the Kimbo Foundation, whose mission is to recognize and encourage students who show exceptional academic achievement and leadership potential for the Korean community, and to provide them with financial support in their endeavor to study. Jiwon is an excellent student both in the classroom and in the lab, where he conducts his research with mentor, Dr. Demi Cheng. It is easy to see why he was one of only 27 recipients in the New York region to be selected for this honor, from a pool of 111 applicants.
PRISM Office Use and Availability
As many of you know, the PRISM office, 05.61.00 is equipped with a conference table and a smartboard. This space is available to PRISM students to work alone, form study groups, browse through GRE books, etc. If your mentor is looking for a space to have a lab meeting, encourage him/her to sign out the PRISM space!
You can drop by any day/time if the door is open and the room is free or if you want a guaranteed space for a meeting, sign it out on the big wall calendar or email prism@jjay.cuny.edu with your request. Don’t worry – you won’t be disturbing Ed, Fran, or Ron. We like the sounds of student energy and are able to tune you out when needed.
