2014 Stormwater Technical Conference

Registration is now open for "BMP's - Back to the Basics", the 2014 Partners for Clean Water Conference.This year's conference is scheduled for September 18 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Idaho Association of General Contractors (AGC) office, 1649 West Shoreline Drive, Suite 100. The conference will be broken into two sessions.

The morning session will be held at the AGC office. The session will focus on new NPDES permit requirements, proper installation, inspection, and maintenance of BMP's, and local ordinance updates.

The afternoon session will take place at the future site of Esther Simplot Park and will be a "mock" construction site with demonstrations of improper and proper BMP installation and maintenance.

ACHD Permeable Pavers Pilot Project

This summer, ACHD has retrofitted two alleys in Downtown Boise with permeable pavers. Permeable pavers work by draining rainwater through cracks between the pavers into the ground. The gravel between the pavers filters silt, pollutants, and debris, resulting in less polluted runoff in the Boise River.

The alley projects are part of ACHD's green infrastructure program. ACHD has been actively exploring green infrastructure as an effective tool for managing water drainage from Ada Countyâ€™s roadways. Instead of piping and treating stormwater in a centralized storm drain pond, the water quality and volume is managed through onsite features.

City begins Stormwater Design Manual revision process

In June, Boise City convened a committee of local stormwater professionals, engineers, architects, and landscape architects to begin revising the Stormwater Design Manual that was developed in 2000. The latest revision will incorporate a number of changes, such as new NPDES permit requirements, new stormwater techonologies, and changes to onsite retention requirements.

The committee will meet every two months to discuss and review changes. The new manual will be completed by September 2015, as required by the NPDES permit.
