Last month we mentioned 3 items we are discussing with PSD for addition to part 7S of the drug tariff. These items are still under consideration and have yet to be added to the tariff:
  • Diltiazem Cream 2%
  • Emulsifying Wax 3% in Water
  • Alfentanil Spray 5mg/5ml
Once agreement is reached we will publish the information on our website.

Chief Medical Officer Letters

The government have issued 2 CMO letters:

Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Programme 2014-15
The purpose of this letter is to provide details about the arrangements for the 2014-15 seasonal influenza vaccination programme in adults aged 65 years and over and adults from aged 18 years with “at-risk” health conditions.

Childhood Flu Programme – Year 2 Implementation 2014-15
The purpose of this letter is to provide details about the further implementation of the childhood flu programme which began in October 2013. Year 2 of the phased introduction of that programme will formally commence from 1 October 2014. This letter only deals with flu immunisation for children, including those with “at-risk” health conditions.

Payment for Influenza Vaccines 2014/15

For more information on the Payment for Influenza Vaccines in 2014/15 view our PDF. This PDF also includes an example of a stock order form.

Gluten Free Foods Additional Pharmaceutical Service

We have had feedback from PSD that a number of CPUS forms for the gluten free scheme have been received with missing or incomplete CHI numbers.  The full patient CHI number should be included on the form as per the circular to ensure payment.  This will aid the evaluation of the service at the end of the trial period.

Domperidone – removal of P status

Motilium 10 and Motilium Instants
Recently the MHRA announced the removal of P status for domperidone which means it is no longer prescribable through MAS.
The MHRA has also issued a pharmacy level recall (MHRA Drug Alert MDR 49-08-14) of the above Motilium products which may no longer be sold to patients.

Medical Devices

Where an item is classed as a medical device, it is not allowed on NHS prescriptions if not in the Scottish Drug Tariff part 3. A number of medical devices are marked MD in the Chemist and Druggist.  For example – prevalin  nasal spray does not have marketing authorisation but is classed as a medical device.  It’s not listed in part 3 of the drug tariff or the blacklist.

Part 7 U Changes

We are in discussions with the Scottish government to have the following items added to drug tariff part 7U.
  • Blephagel
  • Blephasol
  • Blephawipes
Presently these items are not in the drug tariff and are therefore not allowed.  We are hoping for inclusion from 1st October 2014.  Items on Part 7U are not allowed on eMAS forms as they are unlicensed.

There is an updated pack size for Bepanthen ointment to 100g, the price is 459p.

Microsoft Office 2007 Discs

We have received a new supply of Microsoft Office 2007 discs for contractors from the Scottish Government. If you would like a copy, please email us, stating your contractor code. If you do not want the disc sent to your listed pharmacy please provide an alternative address.
