Youth Empowered in Cumaica Norte and El Coyol Through PhotoVoice

Amidst the lowing of the cattle and the cries of the birds, the youth of Cumaica Norte gather at the Casa Base on Tuesday, August 11, just as they have been doing for the past few Tuesday’s. This meeting, however, is not to organize the next soccer or baseball game amidst friends. Rather, it is part of an initiative to empower the youth of the community, called JOSECHAS (“Youth planting seeds to harvest hopeâ€). Based on the idea that real change must happen at a young age, JOSECHAS was created to target the youth in the communities that AMOS partners with in order to create more sustainable grassroots change through community development. The program was first piloted in the community of San Onofre, Boaco, and because of its overall success, AMOS has now been implementing the program this year in Cumaica Norte and El Coyol.
