Meet With Your Member of Congress During Recess

Congress is in recess. That means all Members of Congress are home in their district or state, so it's the perfect time to reach out and request a meeting or invite them to visit your program. District meetings or site visits are one of the best ways to persuade Members of Congress and to support service. Now is also the perfect time to invite your elected officials to any August or September orientation or celebration events. Are you unsure of how to set up a meeting or invite a Member of Congress to your events? Check out more resources here.

Language & Literacy Practices in Out-of-School Time

The Sarah Heinz House is collectinginteresting and innovative practices in language and literacy to design a series of webinars by the National Afterschool Association. These will be offered for free on the new Robert Bowne Foundation funded Out-of-School Time Hub which is linked to the newspaper Youth Today.

We are looking for ways that you have engaged children and youth in reading, writing, English language acquisition and academic and language development, particularly in fun, non-school-like ways that are culturally appropriate as well as appropriate for the afterschool and summer contexts.

If your ideas and/or lessons are used on the Hub, you and your agency's work will be fully acknowledged. In addition, you may be asked to participate in a Google hangout as an afterschool expert. This Google hangout will be recorded and uploaded onto a Youtube channel for viewing by the larger community.

If interested, click here to fill out a form and enter your information.

Stay fitUnited with a         Customized Menu

The fitUnited Customized Menu is a series of statements that highlight best practice measures in nutrition and physical activity for children. By taking the survey, an agency or service provider is able to measure themselves against best practices, and identify ways in which they can promote being healthy with their youth. The best practice areas include nutrition in food and beverages and physical activity. The survey will take between 5 and 10 minutes (at most) to complete

Please click here to take a look. Once you complete the survey, a wealth of opportunities become available to you, including potential donations of sports equipment, volunteers to help with potential fitness activities, and more!

Thank you for your commitment to the health of our region's youth!
