Fyi -
A rare forthcoming occasion will give residents in Narrabri Shire a chance to experience the golden era of train travel.
A historic steam engine known as Legend of Steam™ locomotive 3642 will visit our area next week, transporting passengers as it journeys to various sites across NSW.
Locomotive 3642 is an express passenger steam locomotive that was built by Clyde Engineering in 1926 for use on the New South Wales Government Railways. It was decommissioned following its final run in September 1969 after which it became part of the NSW Rail Transport Museum collection. It has since been refurbished for tour services.
On Thursday August 28, the historic steam train will journey northward from Maitland through to Werris Creek, stopping at stations in Branxton, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Scone, Murrurundi and Quirindi along the way.
The following day, Locomotive 3642 will depart from Werris Creek on an all day round trip to Narrabri and back again. Interested parties living along the way will have the chance to get onboard in Breeza, Curlewis, Gunnedah and Boggabri.
On August 30 and 31, the steam engine will provide Tamworth residents their own opportunity to travel onboard. 60 minute round trips from Tamworth to Kootingal will be run over the weekend 8 times.
This is an uncommon and exciting opportunity, providing for a great family outing but also a chance to experience and celebrate the history of the region.
