 Toronto, ON – Women in Film & Television – Toronto (WIFT-T) is pleased to announce Shasha Nakai as the recipient of the inaugural WIFT-T Ubisoft Toronto Producer Mentorship, providing one WIFT-T member with the opportunity to gain insight and experience in the games and interactive industry. The one-week mentorship will take place onsite at the Ubisoft Toronto studio September 22nd through 26th.
"WIFT-T is very excited to offer this important new mentorship program in partnership with Ubisoft Toronto," says Heather Webb, WIFT-T Executive Director. "Shasha is an ideal candidate and will gain valuable insights and contacts in the gaming and interactive industry that will help move her career forward."
The Ubisoft Toronto Producer Mentorship was established to help develop emerging talent and encourage diversity in the gaming sector.
“At Ubisoft Toronto, we believe passionately that building diverse teams helps us create more interesting games for our fans, and we are excited to provide Shasha with a deep dive into our approach to production at the studio,” says Jade Raymond, Managing Director, Ubisoft Toronto. “We look forward to building the mentorship program with WIFT-T as an important way to inspire and increase awareness about opportunities for women in the games industry.”
Shasha Nakhai is a producer based out of Toronto. Her award-winning short films include The Sugar Bowl (2011), Joe (2012) and Unsinkable (2012), which have screened at festivals worldwide including Hot Docs, DC Shorts, LA Shorts, Atlanta, and Aljazeera film festivals. They have also aired worldwide and been released on iTunes. She is currently producing a documentary project for Bravo, directed by Rich Williamson, and working as an associate producer on Driving with Selvi, directed by Elisa Paloschi.
Since graduating from Ryerson University's Broadcast Journalism program, she has worked with Summerhill Entertainment, CBC Radio, CKLN-FM and Africa Independent Television. She has also worked part-time for the past five years as brand representative with Sony PlayStation. In association with Storyline Entertainment producers Ed Barreveld and Lisa Valencia-Svensson, she has also worked as a production and post-production coordinator and social media manager on high-profile theatrical documentaries such as The World Before Her and Herman’s House.
