We specialise in the breeding and sale of Hebridean sheep and highland cattle.

VICTOR III OF EARN ARRIVES AT ROUNDOAK

During the early part of 2014, Roundoak were sad to loose their priced bull Kier due to ill health and old age.  As a result the farm have been looking for a new bull.

Over the years Norman and Ruth have made many friend in Scotland and decided it was the only place to go to find a suitable replacement bull.  It was an interesting pilgrimage which resulted in us meeting many well known breeders and even an invitation by Dochy Orminston the farm manager of the royal Balmoral estate.

As a result of his knowledge and help we were introduced to Victor, a 5 year old bull well suited for what was required at Roundoak farm.  Victor had originally been purchased in the famous Oben Highland Sales back in February and had been to many shows and won many rosettes.

Victor is now settling in after the 13.5 hour journey from Perth to Maidstone.  His new home at Sutton Valence is also home to over 80 highland cows, bulls and calves , as well as one of the largest flocks of Hebrieam sheep in the UK.

The farm also has a small breeding flock of rare North Ronaldsay sheep and is probably one of Maidstone’s Best Kept Secrets

The farm supply stock for both breeding and meat to many individuals, as well also butchers and restaurants locally and in London.

NEW BARN COMPLETED READY FOR WINTER

The sister farm to Roundoak, which is adjacent to Kingsnorth Manor Farm on Crumps Lane, Ulcome, was purchased about 2 years ago.  The land is approximately 70 acres and consists of mainly grassland and a small piece of woodland.  The land is home to a heard of cows, calves and Sam the bull.

The farm recently obtained planning permission for the erection of a agricultural building for the storage of fodder.  The new building has just been completed just in time for the October rains and winter.

SUMMER LAMBING

In a continued program to keep stock levels commercially viable sometime ago the farm embarked on a dual lambing season both in early Spring and in the Summer.  Many said that this was impossible to achieve, however, Roundoak once again this year, 2014 have achieved Summer lambing and one of our oldest ewes, Bayleaf produced a stunning son in September which was the first of this years Summer lambing program.

Many rare breeds such as the hebridean’s take almost twice as long to come to maturity, some 18 months and summer lambing has helped to keep stock levels up which has allowed us to keep up with the increase demand.
