September 2014 News

September has been a busy month - from Photoshop World right into a trip to Hawaii (images coming soon) and preparation for a local art show and sale, this month has kept me hopping and full of photo opportunities.
Inside
Last month I sent out my first survey to all of you, my wonderful newsletter subscribers! Thank you to all who voted for the image for this Saturday's art show! This was really fun to see which images you all voted on and I was excited to be able to track how each image was doing - it was a pretty close call!
Once you voted, you were automatically entered into a drawing to win a signed 8 x 10 image. The winning image that will be shown as a special display for the art show and sale was Inside (pictured to the left).
You can read about the winning image and see the winner of the 8 x 10 print here.

Photoshop World
Photoshop World in Las Vegas is an event that I attend annually. This is a great conference that covers photography and digital tools such as Photoshop and Lightroom from some of the best instructors in the industry. I blogged the event, which you can read here.
Keeping tools sharp when mastering a craft are very important. For the past few years, I have been putting my resources into learning and sharpening skills for all aspects of photography - and I think this is important for any artist. Whenever I create an image, I put all of my experiences and things that I have learned up to that point into that image. From techniques for the best way to capture an image in the camera to processing it in the digital darkroom to then sharing it with the world, I try to absorb as much information as I can at classes, conferences and workshops in order to show my best work.
Book Review
One of the photographers, authors, instructors and all around human beings I admire is David duChemin. He has added so much to the photographic community with his writing, and podcasts; he even started a community of creatives that he is always willing to help.
I was honored to be selected to review his latest book How to Feed a Starving Artist. This is a fantastic book that is wonderful for creatives - you can read my full review here.
