Testimonials

"My friend Theresa and I were looking for a unique way to celebrate our birthdays this past year.   Shari Pontillo at Twisted Fiber Studio provided the perfect answer.   We booked her for a journal making workshop at Theresa's house.  She provided a wealth of beautiful papers, paints, stamps, and other materials so that each  could make a unique journal.  We added the wine and appetizers and the creativity just flowed. I would highly recommend booking Shari for your next party."   Kathy K.

This Week's Feature

Recently I was asked how I'm doing?  How is life since I left the corporate world?  My simple response with a huge smile is "I'm happy."  What surprises me is how real that is.  A few years, I know I couldn't say that with any sincerity about all of my life.  I am thankful for my husband and family (and their support and love).  But other areas of my life weren't where I wanted them to be.  I was not happy but I realized that isn't easy to admit. Of course I was happy, wasn't I? Not really.  But what a feeling true happiness is.  Incredible.

So this week I ask "What is happiness to you?" Yes, happiness can be such a vague word. But different things symbolize happiness to each of us.  For you, what does happiness look like? What does it feel like? What specific things make you happy?

For me happiness is…
  • Warm and safe
  • Full of laughter
  • Peaceful
  • Stress-free
  • My husband's love
  • Doing what I like A LOT or LOVE
  • Teaching arts & crafts classes
  • Enjoying friends and family
  • Being active (surprising for those of you who know me)
  • Eating to feel better (with some decadence)
  • Touching fabric
  • Exploring my creativity
  • Getting dirty
  • Blue skies and fluffy clouds
  • Volunteering
  • Putting my feet up
I could go on but I think you get the idea.  I have lots of things to be happy about and am grateful for every one of them.

What makes you happy?

Resources

Your community is a resource for information, supplies, classes, networking, and other opportunities.  My local library, Morton Grove Public Library, recently organized a Craft Swap.  While swap could be a bit of a misnomer, it was an event where people could donate leftover art, craft, and sewing supplies that would in turn be picked up by someone else that could use it.  The swap part came in when those looking for supplies brought items for the local food pantries as a donation/entrance fee.  It was a truly incredible thing to watch everyone's delight in their discoveries.  Now this was on a grand scale but don't forget freecycle.com or craigslist.com where you can find "free" or low cost art supplies for our passion.  Recycle and repurpose.  This feeling of community was the best and I was proud to be involved.    Why not do it on a smaller scale or in yoru neighborhood?  Who doesn't have stuff that they aren't using any more?  A craft that you liked for a while or tried out but have no more interest in it but have all the supplies?  Set one up with the neighbors!
