A pair of foxes, young deer, a snaking squirrel and the latest forest...
|
|
Welcome to the September project newsletter!
The project's camera traps moved from 'Kennedy Wild Bird Food Forest' to a new, larger area called 'Flo's Forest'.
Flo's Forest was more exposed and we knew the mix and amount of wildlife would be a bit different - but the Bushnell camera traps still captured lots of great videos!
We captured a pair of foxes for the first time in the project, and bizarrely a snaking squirrel...
The cameras have already been moved to the next forest - 'Bear's Wood'. This is very close to where there have been two recent and strong pine marten sightings, so fingers crossed...

Another sleepy deer...
For the second time in two different forests, a roe buck has decided to bed down for a kip in front of a camera.
A week later, a fallow deer also bedded down in the same spot!
Perhaps roe bucks find the presence of our Bushnell cameras comforting?

Mammal Society camera trap workshop in Yorkshire

Our camera trap workshop with The Mammal Society is fast approaching!
There are still a few spaces remaining on the day-long workshop at the North York Moors Visitor Centre on the 4th October...
At the last workshop in Cheshire, participants captured foxes, badgers and even tiny ducklings with our camera traps...!

New 'Little Mammal Lens'
NatureSpy have been looking at ways to get close-up images and video of small mammals using camera traps...
Taking inspiration from a few places, we adapted one - and the early results have been great, with shrews, bank vole, woodmice, great tit, robin and magpie already making an appearance!
