Shirts, stickers, & 501c3!Donate Now

We did it! We submitted our application for 501(c)3 status! This is a huge step for ASP and means that we will be a full-fledged (instead of fledgling) nonprofit organization very soon. The IRS recently made the process easier, but no less expensive ($400 - ouch!). We have also placed our first order for t-shirts and stickers, which will available for pre-order soon (please reply to this email if you'd like to be notified when this is available). So things are really moving along for ASP, but we need your help more than ever. Please consider ASP as the giving season approaches.

We Need To Stop Ruining Families To Have Pet Snakes

Our blog post, Taken, was featured on the front page of the Dodo, an online news source dedicated to animals. Read about the tragedy of being a much-loved snake and share our article there so they will continue to feature positive snake stories.

Which is Which?

We recently featured a guest post from our dear friend, Roger Repp, hopefully the first of many. For his first official posting, he gave us six images of rattlesnake love: some are courtship and some are mating. Can you tell which is which? Take the quiz and find out!

Events

Tucson Reptile Show, Saturday October 4th 9:30am – 5pm and Sunday October 5th 10am – 4pm, Tucson Expo Center, 3750 East Irvington Road, Tucson, AZ (map). We will be at Tucson’s all captive-bred reptile show with live native reptiles, literature, and our brand new shirts and stickers!

The Social Lives of Rattlesnakes, presentation at Summit Hut, Wednesday October 8th at 7pm, 7745 N Oracle Rd, Oro Valley, AZ 85704 (map). Although generally thought of as solitary, cold-blooded killers, rattlesnakes exhibit a variety of behaviors that we typically associate with animals such birds and primates. Courtship, combat, and hanging out with friends are just a few behaviors captured by our remote, timelapse cameras that you will get to see during this presentation. You may never look at snakes the same way again.

Become an ASP

Changing the way people view and treat animals as maligned as snakes is no small task, but we can do this with your help! We are non-profit in nature and expect to have 501c3 status by the end of 2014. Your donation will go directly toward our efforts to promote compassionate conservation and coexistence with snakes, which you can learn about here. Please visit our donate page to find out about ASP memberships and other ways you can help us help snakes.

That's all that's fit to hiss at the moment, but remember you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more frequent updates!
