On the weekend the Ressies took on PEGS in the Premier C Reserves Preliminary Final. The Ressies had not beaten PEGS during the season, but knew they could be the better team on the day. At quarter time, the boys were 3 points in front and looking good. A late fade in the 2nd quarter saw the Wellers 3 goals down at half time and in the end that proved to be the difference. The Wellers battled hard for the 2nd half and kept even with the goal scoring, but it wasn't enough and PEGS ran out winners by 3 goals.

In other VAFA news, the Premier C Section is now finalised for 2015. The teams are as follows:

Old Camberwell
Marcellin
Monash Blues
P E G S

Match Review from Coach Stuart Hillier:

In perfect conditions for football Old Camberwell Reserves travelled to the far eastern corner of the Metro area to play PEGS in a much anticipated Preliminary Final at Casey Fields. With a quarter time score of 3 goals 1 behind to PEGS  2 goals 4 behinds there was a strong belief at quarter time that we had matched it with the best team in the Competition. The last time Old Camberwell met PEGS, at quarter time we were 35 points down.

Unfortunately our second quarter was marred by sloppy disposal, indirect football and generally lacked the intensity of the previous weeks final against Monash. Subsequently at half time we had let PEGS outscore us for the quarter by 4 goals 2 behinds to our lowly 2 points. At half time PEGS had doubled our score and had twice as many scoring shots. With only 3 goals 3 behinds to our name it was going to take a massive effort to not only steam the tide but fight our way back into the game.

The third quarter was a real arm wrestle and both sides attacked the ball with equal ferocity befitting a Preliminary Final. Unfortunately Old Camberwell could only match PEGS for the quarter without making any headway to reducing the half time deficit. At the final break Old Camberwell was 5 goals 5 behinds to PEGS 8 goals 8 behinds.

The final quarter was more of the same with Old Camberwell still struggling to make any headway and both sides continuing to work hard. Eventually PEGS ran out comfortable winners 10 goals 13 behinds to Old Camberwell  7 goals 6 behinds. The 25 point loss was almost the 24 point difference in our lacklustre second quarter. With 23 scoring shots to Old Camberwell’s 13 , PEGS certainly deserved their win and the right to challenge Parkdale Vultures for the premiership.

The better players for Old Camberwell were Dan Toma, Nick Searles  & Will McDonald across half back, Danny De Sanctis up forward and in the middle during an inspired third quarter effort, Corey McLaughlin on the ball and Chris Young & Brett Cottrell across the mid field.

This being the last report for the year, I would like to thank each and every player for their efforts this season and wish them well for their football futures. Apart from the players, I would also like to thank Peter Woodbridge for his help on the boundary every week, Matt Callaghan for being our team runner and Tim Cottrell for being the ever reliable Team Manager. A special thank you also to Henry Tun for being the unsung hero running the boundary each week.

Good luck to all of you.
