"Better Living Through Trails"

Please join us for this free event to learn how Klamath can leverage our trails as community assets. We will conduct an informal brainstorming session from 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm to capture ideas for those that want to stick around. Note, you must pre-register for the event.

IMBA's "Trail Building School"
Date: Saturday, October 25th
Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
(lunch provided)
Place: Running Y Resort (Lodge Conference Room, 3rd Floor)
IMBA's highly respected trail building school teaches sustainable trail construction and maintenance via a classroom session, followed by hands-on trail work. This is also a free event but pre-registration is required.

KTA Helps Out the A Canal
The Klamath Trails Alliance wants to send out thanks to the to three KTA members, Drew Honzel, Adam Burwell and Dennis Taugher, who joined a work crew on September 3rd and Klamath Falls City Parks to help spruce up the A Canal paved path. They picked up trash along most of its length while the rest of the crew patched freeze cracks and cut back trees. This is in line with our mission to help where we can.
The Bureau of Reclamation and City Parks plan to keep the canal path ship-shape. A six year plan includes major construction shoring up the banks of the canal and re-paving large parts of the path.
We are looking for volunteers to help us with the worth-while project. We'd like to help set up a “Friends of the A-Canal” committee to spearhead future work days. Email Dennis (dennistaugher@me.com) for more information.

Klamath Trails Alliance is an all-volunteer non-profit organization that relies on individual memberships, business sponsorships and grants to fund our work. Funds are used to promote, develop and maintain a network of trails for non-motorized recreation. Recently, two new sponsors joined KTA's growing list of supporters within our community.
Hutch's Bicycle Shop ran a KTA membership promotion in July for new bike sales. Several new memberships were funded in addition to a cash contribution by Hutch's. The Klamath Falls business also organized weekly trail maintenance days for the month of July to improve our growing Moore Park trail system. Many thanks go out to the team at Hutch's!
Running Y Resort is our newest business sponsor. Thanks to their generous support we have the best venue in town to host IMBA's Trail Care Crew Visit on October 23rd lodging for IMBA's crew, meeting space and food and beverage for both events on Friday, October 24th and Saturday, October 25th. Featured Trail of the Month

Skillet Handle trail
Difficulty: Easy
Length:
two miles (main trail), six miles (loop)
Lowest elevation: 4,136 feet
Highest elevation: 4,260 feet
The Skillet Handle trail is a relatively new addition to the Klamath Basin’s fine collection of trails. The first phase was built in 2013. Now the jaunt along the shores of Upper Klamath Lake is a prime spot to view 47 species of birds, according to the Running Y Ranch. The skillet handle was originally a peninsula which extended two miles into the lake and has some of the oldest Oregon oak trees in the Klamath Basin.

To access the Skillet Handle trail, drive to the Running Y Ranch west of Klamath Falls. Take Cooper’s Hawk Road as it twists and turns around the resort. The road ends at a small gravel parking area where the trail begins.

These funds support trail maintenance, promotion, new trail development and the resources needed to keep us up and running as a non-profit organization!
