Unless you're one of the lucky alumnae...

...who's had the opportunity to attend this incredible institution or you're a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood (238,000 members and counting), chances are you've never heard of Cottey College

While this liberal arts college for women may be small in size, this approach is intentional. It's a huge advantage for them to be collaborative, integrated and focused. With a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio, it's no wonder that Cottey breeds success. And as you'll find, their legacy, mission, financial backing, accomplished alumnae and continual efforts to foster women leaders are nothing short of a BIG deal.

If this is your first introduction, it's my pleasure to give you the download.

Cottey is the ONLY nonsectarian college in the U.S. that's owned and supported by women, for women, and they're kicking off their first-ever "Going Places" Tour this month. Their first stop? DENVER! Full details on the blog.

If you're interested in attending their first event on Sept. 25, hosted by the Dr. Judy Rogers, President of Cottey, Nicole Vap of 9News and other women of influence, please email me for more info. This wine and cheese reception will feature a discussion on Women: Leaders for the 21st Century.

Debunking Pilates Myths

Since working with Pilates of Cherry Creek, I've learned SO much about the benefits and mechanics of Pilates while debunking a few myths, too!

>>> Pilates is not for weight loss. It's for strengthening and toning muscle (particularly in your core), preventing injury and finding balance in your body.

>>> Pilates is a legacy of World War I. This form of fitness that keeps celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson looking so good, well, it was created by
German boxer and bodybuilder Joseph H. Pilates (hence the capitalization you always see of its name) while he was interned in Britain during the war. (Psst...Joseph was born near Dusseldorf! Fun fact about my future home, yeah?)

>>> You are NEVER too old for Pilates. One of PoCC's oldest clients is 94 years old. Get a load of Bill Kurtz!

>>> Pilates is great for those who golf. It prevents injury, helps you hit the ball farther and is amazing for alignment. In fact, Debbie at PoCC is offering complimentary Pilates for Golf Conditioning classes to first-timers before the 3-class series starts up again in February. Contact her if you're interested.

>>> Pilates is not only great for athletic activities like cycling, but it's also wonderful for gardeners!

>>> It's SO beneficial to do Pilates after knee/hip replacement, shoulder surgery and C-sections, as well as for chronic issues like muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia and cancer.

>>> Pilates is also beneficial during pregnancy, and PoCC will actually be starting an 8-week Prenatal Pilates Workshop Series on Sept. 21. Email PoCC for more info.

If you're in the Denver area and would like to hit the mat this fall, they're actually holding an amazing special right now:

You guys! I'm heading out to Germany on Thursday for a two-week sneak peek of where I'll be living for the next two years. I can't wait to share snippets of the trip with you. Got friends out there or any travel tips? Drop me a line.
Just in case you missed my contribution to the Skinny Dip Society Blog Tour, get your butts to the blog for a little inspiration. I talk about how funks, flowers and taking flight from the familiar have been deliciously feeding my soul. Thanks again for including me in this amazing digital sisterhood, Katie Den Ouden!
