World Water Week, WASHWatch relaunches, new Keep Your Promises theme

WASHwatch.org Re-Launches

The collaborative, open source of information on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) policy commitments and budgets, WASHwatch.org, has been rebranded and upgraded thanks to funding from the Gates Foundation.

WASHwatch monitors progress made towards eThekwini, SACOSAN, and human rights commitments.  Access to this detailed data is presented in an easy to understand format: criteria are objective, transparent and comparable across countries, so campaigners can be ready to inform policy-makers, challenge officials and communicate with the public about WASH.

Most countries in Africa are currently updating assessments of progress on sanitation commitments, so now is a great opportunity to be involved and ensure that your voice is heard and helps hold governments to account. Share comments on WASHwatch to participate in the monitoring process.

Contact WASHWatch at info@washwatch.com to comment on scores and/or contribute evidence.

EWP at Stockholm Water Week

The annual Stockholm World Water Week began yesterday – Sunday - with the theme of energy and water.

End Water Poverty international coordinator, Esmee Russell, will be attending, where among others duties, she will be supporting the three Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) Partnership civil society representatives to present key messages on behalf of civil society within the SWA Steering Committee meeting, and organising a meeting of SWA CSO focal points to discuss future civil society engagement in SWA.

The World Water Week report, “Energy and Water: The Vital Link for a Sustainable Future” is now available. It provides input to discussions that will be taking place in Stockholm, and has six chapters of analysis and perspectives on opportunities and challenges facing the energy and water sectors. Keep Your Promises human rights theme launch

The Keep Your Promises new campaign theme of the human right to water and sanitation – selected by members in EWP’s January planning meeting in Kenya - will be rolled out over the next week.

The Keep Your Promises website (to visit, click here) has been updated and now has content explaining what the human right to water and sanitation means, in terms of its standards and the principles of human rights, as well as hosting relevant resources and explaining the demands of the campaign and why it is necessary.

All the best,
