Safe and Natural Skin Rejuvenation

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is an excellent non-surgical treatment for skin rejuvenation. This treatment has been used for some time in various medical fields to promote tissue healing. It has been available for use in the cosmetic industry for several years. We have been using PRP at Shine now for about five years and are very happy with the results.

                                

The term platelet-rich plasma is used to describe blood plasma with a high concentration of platelets. Platelets contain growth factors that stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. When platelet-rich plasma is injected into the skin, there is an improvement in skin quality and texture.

To obtain the PRP solution, a sample of blood is taken and prepared with a centrifuge to separate out the platelet rich plasma. 

Over the past 12 months at Shine, we have been combining the PRP therapy with the Dermastamp treatment to further boost the collagen-stimulating effects. Dermastamp is a skin needling devise with an attached chamber that can be filled with the PRP solution, along with hyaluronic acid. This solution is injected into the skin via fine needles. This will deliver the PRP solution evenly to the skin at the perfect depth.

Skin needling alone has long been known to have a strong effect on stimulating collagen, improving skin texture and scars-even acne scars. When this is combined with PRP therapy, further improvements can be seen.

During a typical treatment session, blood is taken, a light microdermabrasion is performed and then a topical anaesthetic is applied to the skin. Following the treatment, there will be some redness and minor swelling of the skin. A soothing mask is then applied. Redness will remain in the skin for 24-48 hours and mineral makeup can be used to cover this.

We recommend an initial course of three treatments performed 6-8 weeks apart. Each treatment will stimulate collagen and elastin for weeks to months. A review and a further treatment may be recommended at 6-12 months to maintain the benefits. The end result is an improvement in skin texture, thickness and smoothness.
