Monthly newsletter
Dear <<First Name>>
A message from Peta Godenzi, President
What a great night we had at the Warburton Curry Club networking night. More than 50 people attended so it was a terrific opportunity to get to know others in the area and also to hear mini-presentations about businesses and events from our members. This newsletter is a great way to circulate information and you will see several members have taken the opportunity to highlight services or important opportunities. Our networking night was very enjoyable from the food through to Norm's trivia quiz, and we have had great feedback. We have several new members on board (this financial year) and this allows us to continually expand our focus and activities.
Our August meeting was kindly attended by Cr Jim Child (O'Shannassy ward) and Andy van Bergen, who is a cycling event organiser presently working on several key activities in the region, including an Everesting event next February. There is great enthusiasm and opportunity for cycling in the valley and we have wise advice to start thinking and acting now on how we can best maximise the tourism opportunities cycling activities will bring. CEDA resolved to provide sponsorship support to the Everesting event, as have the Warburton and Yarra Junction Community Banks. More on cycling tourism later in the newsletter.
A suggestion was also made to develop and publish a CEDA members directory to further assist networking and development opportunities for members. We have started work on this and will endeavour to get it to you as a priority. If you have any suggestions on format or inclusions, we'd love to hear from you.
Are you a financial member? If you are not sure and wish to check, please send us an email at CEDA@upperyarra.net.au – only financial members will be included in the directory and receive other member benefits. Renewals are now overdue but will still be accepted.
Welcome to our new members this month:
If you would like to see anything particular featured in upcoming issues of this newsletter, or have something to contribute, we welcome your suggestions and submissions.
All the best, Peta

Diary Notes
- The next Warburton Valley CEDA meeting is 25 September 2014 at 10am in the boardroom at the Warburton Community Bank. Members may attend and should RSVP to this email address. Alternatively you can submit any questions or comments in writing for the committee.
CEDA works
We have scheduled our AGM and ask you to save the date: Wednesday 22 October at 6pm (for 7pm dinner). Further details will follow. We are planning an evening with a guest speaker and a 2-course menu for $30-35.
Susan Cliff of Billy Mays attended our last meeting with great enthusiasm for establishing a traders' group. There seems to be significant interest and many ways in which such a group can bring value to the region. We encourage any traders who see value in participating to contact us ASAP. As a subcommittee of CEDA, an active group of traders working on developing real and needed assets and activities can only benefit us all. Such activities could include working on adequate bicycle parking ideas and a Christmas decoration program/competition. If you would like to know more, please contact Geoff at CEDA@upperyarra.net.au
At the Visitor Information Centre:
- Liquor Licence has been approved - do you know any wineries along the Warburton Valley that may be interested in joining CEDA and having their products showcased at the Waterwheel? Please encourage them to contact us ASAP.
Cycling – our tourism future
Did you know more than 500 submissions of support were made to the Shire of Yarra Ranges regarding the Mountain Bike Feasibility Study? (A record response!) The SYR has committed in principle $500,000 to this development and the Warburton and Yarra Junction Community Bank branches have committed in-principle funds of $300,000. This evidences a high level of local interest and commitment. We now need government funding commitments of $3.5 million to make this happen and you can help by letting your local politicians know how important this is to the region.
Read a copy of CEDA's letter of support here.
To lobby Politicians (Legislative Assembly District of Eildon):
Cycling in the area is already advancing at a steady pace across all types of events. The Everesting event on February 7/8 will attract more than 500 participants and generate great PR exposure for the region. It is a free event that will bring many people to the area for the weekend. Ol' Dirty last week was attended by almost 100 riders. Every weekend, there are hundreds of recreational users on the Rail Trail and various other adventure trails.
A committee will be formed to work hand-in-hand with event organisers and as a go-between for CEDA members - there will be, for example, opportunities for accommodation services to benefit from bookings and it's time to start thinking about the best way our towns can prosper from this upside in patronage and exposure.
Please consider how you're going to make the most of this potential and help keep this project top of the agenda through continued discussion, lobbying and support.

Dale from DalCorp
My name is Dale Feim, principal accountant and director of Dalcorp Accounting Services. Our office is situated in Hoddle Street, Yarra Junction. I established our practice after 15 years’ experience in a city firm as a senior accountant and small business specialist. I found the Yarra Valley/Warburton Valley needed an efficient local, office-based service for clients. I recognised the importance for clients to be able to call in and deal directly with their accountant instead of becoming ‘lost’ within larger firms and handed from one junior to another.
I have based my practice on providing traditional service values, such as returning phone calls and emails within the same day. Our clients deal directly with myself where their accounting and taxation needs are treated with care and diligence.
As a resident of the Yarra Valley for more than 30 years, I understand how important local businesses are to our community and the need for honest, professional and personalised service. To ensure our clients are kept up-to-date and well advised with taxation and accounting issues all clients receive our complimentary monthly e-newsletter.
We are conveniently located at 6 Hoddle Street, Yarra Junction (opposite the Yarra Junction Library), and our office is open 5 days a week. We understand the importance of time to our clients who are already busy working long hours within their small businesses - therefore evening and Saturday morning appointments are also available.
I pride myself on being approachable and contactable. Please feel free to call in for a chat, phone 5967 1312 or email dale@dalcorpas.com.au to discuss your small business taxation and accounting requirements. Our website has information on the services we offer, current tax rates and handy business links. Please like our Facebook page to ensure you stay up-to-date with current issues affecting your small business.
For more than 12 years we have had the pleasure of working closely with many Yarra Valley/Warburton Valley businesses. I look forward to continuing to meet more of our local businesses and assisting them with their taxation and accounting needs. If you would like to receive our monthly e-newsletter, please feel free to email me your details and I’ll ensure you receive this or click here to subscribe.
Warm Regards, Dale Feim Principal, Accountant Dalcorp Accounting Services
A note from the organisers of Warburton Up and Running - 22/2/15
Planning is well underway for our 22 February 2015 event and we are anticipating up to 1000 participants. (We had 700+ participants in 2014.)
Our inaugural half marathon received rave reviews from runners last year, and we expect more runners this year as a result. We will also have our 10km run, 5km run, 5km walk and a kids' dash.
Our entry fees are competitive and our prizes (cash and accommodation) plus trophies/medals are better than most comparable events. And of course, our environment is second to none! No surprise that after 11 years, we are now a regular 'must do' on many runners' calendars. We draw competitors from a wide range of postcodes, plus a good share of locals.
One of the goals of Warburton Up and Running Fun Run is to bring people to the area, encourage them to stay the weekend, patronise local businesses, and return.
If you have an accommodation business, and would like to offer a special rate to participants for the weekend of the event (Sunday February 22nd), we would be happy to place a link to your business on the registration page of our website so people can book directly with you.
We also invite you to consider other promotional opportunities you could offer visitors for this event. For example, participating businesses can display a sign (which we will supply) with a special offer (discount, free coffee and so on) to all race participants on the presentation of their race bib. What you want to offer is up to you.
We will advertise on our website and Facebook page which businesses are participating, and provide you with a sign for your window.
We are in the process of creating a new exciting website at the same domain www.warburtonupandrunning.com.au. The revamp will be active in the next few weeks. Our Facebook page is Warburton Up and Running. Please 'Like' and follow us.
The Warburton and Yarra Junction Community Bank branches have been generous with their support, and this year we are acknowledging this by re-badging the event as the Community Bank –Warburton Up and Running Fun Run. Thanks to their support and that of a number of other local businesses, we were able to raise $6,500 for Warburton CFA and the Upper Yarra SES last year. We hope to achieve even more in 2015.
We would welcome offers of sponsorship towards the cost of medals and show bags. Sponsors can include their business information in our show bags. Let us know if this is you!
We look forward to your continuing support.
Cheers, Sue Hoffman

See your events everywhere with one simple post
Don't forget to upload your events on Events Victoria. This is the main events site for Victoria and information is drawn from this site onto more than 50 other tourism and business websites. It's an essential way to get maximum exposure on all the major tourism sites. A quick check on what is currently listed for Warburton, by way of example, shows only two events (both at the Arts Centre) for the next four weeks so we have a huge opportunity!
Thanks from the Warburton Curry Club
Jimmy from the Warburton Curry Club would like to thank all those who attended the network event for the kind feedback he got on the night. The buffet format was a huge success and considered very good value at only $15 a head. Jimmy can offer this buffet style dinner to organisations and groups in the area (meetings. fundraisers, gatherings) and also to CEDA members and their families for private functions and parties. Call Jimmy on 5966 9182 to discuss your next event.

What can I do? Three by three things this month
- EVENTS VICTORIA! We can't stress enough how important this is! it's free advertising and it spreads the word about all the wonderful things on offer in the region to potential visitors not only throughout Victoria but also nationwide. It's easy, and its the best way to gain exposure on 'go to' high traffic tourism sites such as www.visityarravalley.com.au and more than 50 other service sites. It only takes a few minutes to upload your info!
- Write a letter of support for the cycling plans for the region to one or more on the contacts listed above. With an election approaching it's the right time to lobby for active support. Urge them to support these plans and commit the necessary funding to make this a reality. Remember more than $24 million in economic benefits per annum and the creation of more than 170 jobs are important for our region.
- Did you establish your Google+ business profile as detailed in last months newsletter? If not, take another look at this free markeing opportunity. Google have been heavily promoting this service in recent weeks to further increase usage by the general public.
