Source: NCBFAA eBRIEFING

FMC Chairman Mario Cordero will hold a forum titled, "US Port Congestion: Examining Causes, Impact on Stakeholders, and Exploring Possible Solutions." The forum’s goal is to promote dialogue on the causes and implications of congestion at US ports. Industry stakeholders, regulators, and the general public are encouraged to take part. The all-day session will convene on September 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Port of Los Angeles Administration Building, San Pedro, CA. The forum will be taped, transcribed, and maintained by the Commission.

The FMC encourages interested parties to attend and join in the discussion on port congestion and its impact on the different industry sectors. Topics being considered include factors causing port congestion, truck turn times, impact on stakeholders, use of technology to reduce congestion/related fees, and PierPass.

Although not required, participants are encouraged to register by contacting Karen V. Gregory, Secretary, Federal Maritime Commission, 202-523-5725. For additional questions on the Port of Los Angeles facility, please contact: Marisela Caraballo DiRuggiero at 310-732-3881.

The Commission will accept written comments in advance of the Public Forum. Email written comments to Secretary@fmc.gov, with the subject line: "September 15 Public Forum". The FMC will provide confidential treatment to the extent allowed by law for submissions, or parts of submissions, for which the filer requests confidentiality.

Chairman Cordero will report back to the full Commission on issues raised in this forum. Commissioner William P. Doyle will host a Mid-Atlantic and Northeast public forum on US Port Congestion, tentatively scheduled for October 1 at the World Trade Center, Baltimore, MD. Details will be provided when they become available.
