We need your continued support!

Our residents need your help so we can continue providing them with a safe haven.

Last winter, the extreme cold led to exorbitant heating bills.  Additionally, several kennels recently underwent repairs in order to continue our compliance with State requirements.  The income from our thrift stores typically supports a large portion of our agency’s operational costs.  This summer, however, the income from those stores has decreased.  In summary, our operating costs have increased while the income has decreased.

It costs about $4.75 per day to fulfill our promise to one animal in our care while they wait for their forever home.  We typically provide that level of care for 200 dogs and cats daily at a total average monthly cost of $29,000.

Every donation at this critical time is helpful:

* $20 feeds an abandoned dog or cat for 10 days.
* $35 provides formula for a week for an abandoned litter of puppies or kittens.
* $50 helps control the pet population by spaying or neutering a homeless dog or cat.
* $100 provides basic medical care and shelter for a dog or cat for one week.

Thunder, a dog who came to BDAL in September 2007, is a great reminder of the time and devotion we provide to our animals.  Thunder was adopted in April 2014 after meeting his new family at a BDAL awareness event.  Sisters Xena and Athena arrived at BDAL when they were 2 months old.  They were adopted into a loving home in July 2013 when they were almost 3 years old.

These three dogs are just a few examples of our organization’s commitment to providing the highest level of care and support to all our residents, regardless of the time required, with the hope they may eventually find the right home for them.

We invite you to join with us as we continue building on a dream which began in 2007.  Your tax-deductible contribution now will help us continue providing care to these worthy animals.  Our residents and organization certainly appreciate your generosity.  Donations can be mailed to Better Days Animal League, PO Box 57, Shippensburg, PA 17257.

Volunteer Corner

Volunteers are extremely important to Better Days!  They help with cleaning at the shelter and help at all of the thrift stores.  If you are interested in helping Better Days by providing time, please visit the volunteer section of the website.  This month, meet Heather and Bill!

Heather first participated in our 2012 Peace 4 Paws event where she heard of our Miles & Mutts program.  A dog lover and a runner, it was a perfect fit and she fast became one of our committed regulars.  Not long after, Bill purchased his first pair of running shoes in years.   After seeing how much the dogs loved the much needed exercise, he was out there running on the rail trail with them.  Committed to these wonderful adoptable dogs, they have also become regulars at adoption events that allow the dogs a chance to be out and seen by potential adopters.  If they are not at the rail trail running or at an adoption event, we can count on them to be at the shelter walking dogs in their spare time or helping with any maintenance tasks we may throw their way!  Better Days Animal League thanks Heather and Bill for their commitment to volunteering.

The Better Days Animal League website and Facebook page are your sources for adoptable animals, upcoming events and past event photo galleries.  Please visit today to make a monetary donation or donate supplies to help save more animals!
Featured Adoptable Pets:
Lucy
Meet Max!  Max is the good boy enjoying a great belly rub in our volunteer photo above!  Max is a volunteer favorite who loves to go for a walk or a run.  He'll sit patiently while we get his leash on and loves his time outside of the kennel.  Max prefers his friends to be of the human kind and would prefer to go to a home without other dogs or cats.   For more information, visit his Petfinder ad or fill out an adoption application to meet Max.
Rocky
Meet Otis and Sarge! These two fun loving brothers came to the shelter with their mother, Truffles.  Their two other siblings have already found homes and these two boys do not want to grow up in the shelter.  Otis and Sarge love to play with any toys and with each other.  Otis is a little more shy than his brother Sarge but both young kittens would likely do well in any home.  For more information on Otis or Sarge, visit their PetFinder ads or fill out an adoption application to meet them!
