Greetings <<First Name>>!
It's been a while since my Spring Newsletter and now that the Autumnal Equinox is within shouting distance, I better get on to my Summer news while I still can call it that. Here goes:

Upcoming Shows
- 2nd reception Oct 16 at Sarratt Gallery, Vanderbilt University
This is a fundraiser for head & neck cancer patients utilizing their own radiation masks to create works of art.
"Release, Reform, Renew"
Excerpt from my statement:
"I made only two assumptions about the mask's anonymous wearer: that it was a woman and that she had undoubtedly spent some uncomfortable time beneath it. By transforming this piece of plastic from medical device into art object, my intent was to create a sense of liberation from those distressing ordeals. "

The Dubious Expedition: October 25 - November 30
Leanna Lin's Wonderland Gallery Los Angeles, CA
With artists Renee French, Valency Genis, Hine Mizushima, Yeti & Friends, Lauren Wong, Lyla Warren, "El Dodo Albino", and co-curators Leslie Levings & Shing Yin Khor.
"...In 1900, the H.M.S. Chimera is found drifting with cargo hold full of dazzling and wonderful things, but only two crew members - the ship’s navigator, and the cook. Neither navigator nor cook were able to explain the contents of their cargo hold, or in fact - any aspect of their voyage at all. The ship’s cook was institutionalized shortly thereafter, and the navigator spoke of little else but the “glorious horrors” until he disappeared on a Scottish moor three months later."
More details to come but I can tell you that Shing & I collaborated on a few creatures for this show. Very exciting!

Flying Solo - Arts in the Airport, Nashville International Airport. December 2015 - February 2016.

A Summer of Trials & Tahiti -
If you follow my blog at all (and if not, why?) you know that my grandmother was dealing with some very serious health issues this summer. On May 31st, my favorite 92-year-old decided a trip to the ER was in order and she has not been home again since. For 6 weeks, I was completely preoccupied by her care and comfort, to the exclusion of all else... art-making, friends, my own well-being. It was a fretful focus.
It was late July when her recovery took an upswing, much to everyone's surprise and delight. That same week, I received a summons of sorts.. to look at an available studio in downtown Nashville. Another surprise and delight when I agreed to lease the space without much convincing.
Having a home studio and now out-of-the-home studio was going to be confusing, so I have nicknamed my spot "Tahiti". A joke that, so far, still makes me chuckle. My time there has proven to be most productive, splitting my efforts between Research & Development projects and work for upcoming shows.

Ground Floor Gallery & Studios - with artists Janet Decker Yanez, Amanda Joy Brown, Heidi Martin Kuster, Morgan Higby-Flowers, Anne Daigh, Desiré Hough, Wendy Walker and you?? There is one space available!
