Rooted: A Catalyst for Life Change

I hope that you have heard about Rooted. This is a ten-week experience for anyone at the church. Some people want to explore what it means to follow Christ. Others are looking for new relationships at the church and others are looking to grow in their relationship with God. Rooted is the starting place for that to happen.

Rooted is for both newcomers and old timers at EvFree. It is a perfect place to grow, get to know others and learn about following Christ at EvFree. We have asked Erin Kerr, our Pastor of New Community, to spearhead Rooted. I like what he said:

Rooted is a journey with the goal of deepening your connection with God, His Church, and your purpose in the big, epic story He is writing through human history.

Erin had several Rooted groups over the summer, beta-testing it for our church. Originally developed in Kenya, this adventure was originally called Mizizi, which is rooted in Swahili. Isn’t it great that we can use material developed by the African church!

Watch Erin describe the Rooted experience here:

Rooted is a 10-week spiritual growth experience designed to be a catalyst for life change. It’s not a class. It’s not just a small group. It is designed to engage you through a Scripture-based participant guide, discussion based sessions and powerful group experiences. Rooted is powerful because it provokes questions and conversations that go beyond what is comfortable.

Eventually, we would love to see everyone at the church go through Rooted. It should become the first question that we ask people and the place to direct newcomers.

I’ve been at the church a few months and want to engage more.
   • Great, have you been to Rooted?
I want to serve in a ministry.
   • Fantastic, have you been to Rooted?
I was born and raised at EvFree and want to experience Rooted.
   • Wonderful, we would love to have you at Rooted.

The next session begin on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30 pm. Space is limited so you need to sign up today. The sessions run until November 19, and include a celebration dinner on Friday, November 21. There is a cost of $35 for the materials and if you need childcare, it is $75.

BITE SIZE

Women’s Ministries is excited to announce a brand new ministry initiative for this fall which we’re calling BITE SIZE. Bite Size is created in response to an oft-voiced need among our women to connect with other women in the church in a more casual, low key way than some of our ministries might offer. Perhaps you’ve felt this need yourself.

Bite Size is by design, intergenerational—the more decades in the mix the better. It’s not a Bible study, not a prayer group or a support group, but we think all three of those things will happen. Instead, Bite Size is a group of 10–15 women who will meet together for just five weeks. Ideally, they will meet in a home, maybe even close to where they live. We have developed a curriculum to take the “what happens each night” out of the worry zone, and there are four weeks pre-planned with the middle week (week three) to be determined by the group: Dinner out? Bowling? Movie? Game night?

We already have 20 hostesses opening their homes beginning the week of October 5 on various nights of the week (plus one morning, one Sunday afternoon) in Fullerton, Brea, La Habra, Placentia, Yorba Linda. Each hostess will be joined by a trained facilitator who will see that the groups have a great time working through some activities (no homework in Bite Size!), getting to know each other, connecting and having fun.

We are inviting interested women to join us Thursday night, September 11 at 7:00 pm in the Commons to find out more about Bite Size, and sign up. If there are still openings after September 11, we will have the signup sheets on the plaza on Sundays. At this point we are anticipating groups starting in January and March as well and so there will be additional opportunities to jump in a later dates.

Bite Size. Intergenerational, in homes, woman-to-woman, old friends and new. Join us!

Volunteers Needed

We need several people to help with our new services as Guest Guides, ushers, greeters, with the parking team, and the plaza refreshment crew. If interested, sign up at Info Central or talk to any of the Guest Guides on Sunday.

Act 1

Sunday, September 7

Want to volunteer here but don’t know what the options are or are you concerned about what a ministry might require of you? Then join us for Act 1! This campus tour will show you all the possible ways to serve at EvFree. At the end of the tour, you get to fill out a "backstage pass” that allows you to try out the volunteer opportunity in the weeks following. This is open to everyone, whether you’re new to the church or someone who has been coming for several years. Meet in front of the Commons at 9:15 am or 10:45 am on Sunday, September 7. Contact Alise Ramseyer for more info, 714.257.4391.

Seek Week & Vision Night

September 15–22
