Centre For Race and Culture's Monthly Newsletter

We have had a full summer and the fall quarter looks just as busy for our small team at CRC.  We are working hard to provide some great support to agencies and organizations to train their staff in inclusive practices and policies as well as providing our consultant's knowledge for programing like the Aboriginal Youth Police Academy held in August of 2014, or the Diversity Champions Training we help Enbridge deliver to their employees.

We continue to be a vital resource to making Edmonton and Alberta more inclusive and equitable society.  We can only do this with your support - so consider becoming a member or renewing your membership for the 2014/15 year.  If you're really excited about creating an inclusive society free of racism we also accept donations!

Just follow this link to help build equity in Edmonton!

Here's a look at what's happening this fall:

Nehiyaw (Language Classes) have started but you can still register!

You can still register for Nehiyaw (Cree Language) classes for fall and winter 2014/15: http://www.cfrac.com/training/cree-language-lessons

The Nehiyaw (Cree) Language Lessons being offered by the Centre for Race and Culture are different from any of the courses currently being offered in Edmonton. This is due to the unique methodology being used. This methodology is called cahkipehikanak (syllabics), which is better known as the star chart, a traditional format that incorporates the cultural and philosophical teachings of the Nehiyaw language. This method of teaching the Nehiyaw language is not used anywhere in the greater Edmonton area or in the entire educational system in Edmonton.

Please note the sessions will now be held at McCauley School, 9538 - 107 Ave
