Renewable Energy India
Day three, September 2014
As Europe has proven, getting subsidy support right early on in the sector’s development can prove crucial to its long-term support. The Indian state of Delhi has announced that it is going to dip its toe in the water with a net metering scheme that will reward those who export their excess solar power to the grid.
The system has proven itself in the US and also avoids the pitfalls of trying to set a feed-in tariff at the sweet-spot between over-generous and under-effective.
Analysts Mercom may have down-graded their forecast for solar deployment in 2014 but with contributing disruptive factors like the election and the anti-dumping investigation out the way, it remains positive for the future.
Delhi’s progress will certainly be watched closely!
