Skyview Kids
We’ve had an exciting kick off to our Fall program in Skyview Kids. John Henderson introduced us to Edgar, the elephant who never forgets. Edgar has been helping us learn our bible lessons each week. Our kid’s worship leaders: Stephanie, Bob, and Jorge, have been helping us learn new songs. Our kids have begun reading this year’s mission books helping us see how God is at work through the church in other parts of the world. Our Grade 4-6 class (Route 456) has enthusiastically embraced a new leadership role assisting in the other classes and helping teach the bible stories through drama. We also have a great team of adult and youth leaders who share their lives and love with our children.
Skyview Kid’s is a place for us to celebrate and embrace God’s friendship! God wants us to know Him and walk with Him day by day. Our focus in Skyview Kids is to discover the many ways we can welcome God into our lives every day.
If you are a parent, grandparent, or simply part of Skyview Church and would like to visit Skyview Kid’s one Sunday you would be most welcome. Simply let Pastor Geoff know when you would be interested in visiting through text or phone call at (403) 971-7336, or via email at geoff@skyviewchurch.ca.
Skyview Kid’s service opportunities and needs (Please let Geoff know if you can help):
- Toy/Supply cleaning: We need some folks willing to clean our nursery toys periodically (Using natural, non-chemical cleaning supplies). Toys can be taken home to be cleaned over the week or a time can be arranged to clean at the church. You can sign up to clean once, monthly, quarterly or whenever.
- Skyview Kid Hosts: The Host’s job is to welcome our children and parents and oversee the registration process on Sunday mornings. Each week children are signed in and out of Skyview Kid’s to ensure the safety of our kids and volunteers. We are looking for leadership in this area as well as volunteers willing to serve on an occasional basis.
Skyview Kid’s projects you can support:
- Bottles for Camp Harmattan: Church camp has played a huge part in many of our faith stories. We want to help our kids attend camps at Harmattan this coming summer. To help fund this program we have set up a fundraiser at Vecova Bottle Depot located north of the University of Calgary on 32nd Avenue. If you drop off your bottles at Vecova you can direct the refund to go to Skyview Community Church. All funds received will go to camp subsidies for our kids.

The Gift of 20
On September 18 a group of ladies met over a lovely evening snack to begin exploring our theme of "the Gift of 20."
"If two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where 2 or 3 come together in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:19-20
Most of us know how important prayer is. But that night we began considering the benefits of praying with someone, rather than just promising to pray for them when a need is expressed. Can you remember a time when you listened as someone prayed for you?
It's difficult to agree with someone when we don't hear their words. So praying together allows us to agree. And then there are 2 or 3 gathered together. Besides this, there is the encouragement of being prayed for, there is a sense of value that is imparted to the one being prayed for, and there is a sense of urgency by doing the praying now rather than later. Sometimes a person whose faith is faltering is encouraged to actually believe what they have been having difficulty believing.
We don't have to pray that God will fix people, just pray for strength, endurance, wisdom, or encouragement in whatever they are going through.
In the Miss America pageant, contestants are asked interview questions in which they are given exactly 20 seconds to answer. It's amazing what can be said in 20 seconds. Do we realize that in approximately 20 seconds, we could have given one of the most significant gifts we could ever give to another individual by praying with them? And it cost us no money at all!
So our challenge to each other and to all of the ladies in the church, is to give "the gift of 20 seconds," as we learn about needs and are prompted by God. Let us see how it helps all of us to grow in our faith.
Join us Monday, October 20 (7:00pm) at Kvellestad's for coffee and another challenge in "the gift of 20."
