Fall 2014 Kent ISD MTSS Update
Kent ISD is committed to providing a continuum of supports for local districts as they implement an integrated academic and behavioral Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Our team works to develop local leadership teams who facilitate and support quality systems reviews resulting in sustainable changes that increase achievement for ALL students.

Focus on Improving Outcomes

Data reviews are conducted three times each year at all levels of the system: school, district and ISD. In order to strengthen system supports and improve student outcomes, these reviews focus on multiple types of data:
  • Reach data
  • Capacity data
  • Program quality/fidelity data
  • Student outcomes
MTSS Accomplishments
  • The Kent ISD MTSS Team attended the Kansas MTSS Symposium.
  • Caledonia, Kentwood, and Lowell have developed strong and well-respected district MTSS implementation teams.
  • Nine buildings successfully kicked off school-wide positive behavior supports this fall.
  • Feedback regarding the professional learning provided by Kent ISD's MTSS team was overwhelmingly positive.
"It was the most powerful education experience I've had."
Janel Switzer, Curriculum Director
Caledonia Community Schools

What's Next for 2014-2015?

Thornapple Kellogg will begin to install a district-wide Multi-Tier System of Supports by focusing on positive behavior supports in each of their buildings. Caledonia, Kentwood, and Lowell will extend implementation of an MTSS by including additional buildings in the process as well as expanding the focus of buildings already implementing. Our MTSS team will continue providing training and implementation supports for reading, behavior, data review, and district structures.
