Dear Friend of Makom,
With only a few hours left in 5774, we’d like to wish you an amazing Rosh Hashanah, whether you’ll be celebrating it with Makom or elsewhere.
We hope it’s filled with great joy, creativity, inspiration, reflection, repentance, and growth, and that these characterize not just the first two days of your New Year, but all the days to follow.
We’re certainly excited for Makom’s warm, spiritual, and meaningful High Holiday services. If you want to join us for participatory services, soulful chanting, guided meditation, inspiring words of Torah, engaging children’s programming, and full childcare but haven’t yet registered, please do so now! (We have suggested ticket donation prices to help cover our costs running High Holiday services; if those aren’t financially feasible, please pay what you can. All are welcome!)
In everything Makom offers, from song-filled Friday night services to arts-based holiday celebrations, from our innovative Downtown Jewish Playschool after-school program to adult Jewish learning and hands-on workshops, we rely on your generosity. Please consider making a New Year’s donation to support your community. Gifts of all sizes are greatly appreciated.
We’re looking forward to an amazing 5775 for Makom and downtown Jewish life. Thank you for being part of Makom and making it happen!
Warm wishes for a shanah tovah um-tukah – a good and sweet year – in community,
Aaron & the Makom Leadership Team (Andrea, Felicia, Louise, Miriam & Ruth)
PS – Even if you won’t be with Makom for Rosh Hashanah, please join us this Sunday for Tashlikh.
Lakeside TASHLIKH for Kids + Adults
This Sunday, Sept. 28
4:00-5:30 pm
@ HTO Park on Lake Ontario – 339 Queen’s Quay West (the little, sandy beach btw Spadina & Rees)
Weather permitting only
Everyone’s welcome to join us for Tashlikh, a beautiful water’s-edge ceremony with singing, reflecting, and symbolically casting off our past sins. We’ll have separate programs for adults and kids, along with time when any families can be together.
The adults’ program will feature Alan Morinis – a leading figure in the contemporary revival of the Mussar movement, a Jewish spiritual-ethical discipline – who will inspire and guide our personal introspection. Jennifer Turack, Makom’s Director of Education and Family Programming, will engage children with stories, activities, and age-appropriate reflective discussion.
