Best [PR]actices
There’s an unwritten rule among PR pros to avoid pitching timely topics on the same day as a major news announcement – say, when Apple launches one of its most anticipated iPhones to date. Riding the waves made by the news? Now that’s a different story.
McDonald’s was one brand to successfully leverage last week’s iPhone 6 hype, showing up outside Apple’s Fifth Avenue Flagship on Friday to hand out apple pies and other snacks to the thousands of New Yorkers waiting in line. The stunt connected McDonald's to one of the weekend’s hottest topics, plus landed them coverage in Mashable, PR Newser, USA Today and a number of industry pubs. The best part? This kind of idea could be easily implemented on a smaller scale by brands of any size.
