EuropaBio calls for EMA action on labeling of biosimilars
Members of the EuropaBio Healthcare Council call on the European Medicines Agency to define specific guidance on the labelling of biosimilars, in order to take into account the specificities of these products and facilitate their understanding and acceptance by patients and physicians. In particular, EuropaBio supports a transparent label that combines information on both the biosimilar and the reference product. Read more

EuropaBio launches #mybiotech social media campaign
A social media campaign addressed to plant scientists, researchers and science students will be launched on the EuropaBio's Growing Voices platform as part of the 2014 edition of the European Biotech Week that will take place across Europe from 06 to 12 October 2014. Denmark all set for the world's first human stem-cell trials

Researchers from the University of Copenhagen and the city hospital Rigshospitalet aim to begin the trials in 2015. Some of the diseases the stem cell therapy will be tested on include liver and blood diseases, diabetes and nerve/brain diseases such as Parkinson's, Huntington's, epilepsy and sclerosis. Read more
 

Biosimilars collaboration at Amgen and Actavis

Both companies agree that there is a need for further education on the subject of biosimilars in order to establish confidence for those using biosimilars, i.e. physicians and patients. Furthermore, there is no reason for biosimilars to have a lower confidence level than generics. Read more

The debate about GMO safety is over, thanks to a new trillion-meal study

Referring to the recently launched GENERA database listing more than three-dozen examples of studies, there seems to be now a large set of data, both experimental and observational, showing that GM feed is safe and nutritionally equivalent to non-GMO feed.

Lufthansa uses farnesane in first European scheduled flight

The Lufthansa Group is operating its LH 190 flight from Frankfurt to Berlin Tegel using a 10% blend of the new biofuel component farnesane. This is the first scheduled flight in Europe to run on this sugar-based bio-kerosene mix.

EU SME Instrument: first 155 winners of grants announced

After gathering 2662 proposals from the countries participating in Horizon 2020, evaluation by independent experts showed that 217 of the proposals met the evaluation standard. Of those, 155 have been selected for funding. Read more
