The time has come...to ask for your help to bring Black Canaries to life.

Before making a plea for your support, I feel it's important to acknowledge that the Arts are funded almost entirely through private equity in the United States.  While financing for film production is a national mandate in almost every country in the world, American filmmakers have to rely on the goodwill of their family and friends, which is why crowdfunding platform Kickstarter has become a mainstay in the unending quest for film funding.

This was most evident during my first trip to the Cannes Film Festival, which simultaneously hosts the Marché du Film, the largest film market in the world, and Village International, a seaside sprawl of pavilions designated for each country to promote its national film industry. As each open-door tent was abuzz with newly-formed alliances among neighboring European countries, the American tent cost a $25 admission fee.  A grilled cheese sandwich was an additional $12.

Perhaps it gets easier.  Perhaps it doesn't.  Filmmakers have to be their own best advocates and constantly champion for their work.  My recent grassroots film tour was an opportunity to share my films, discuss Black Canaries, and ask for your help in person, face-to-face.  Now, I'm writing an email to you.  I assure you that I'm right here, not far removed from the opposite side of this screen.  If you believe in my work, I ask that you make a tax-deductible Kickstarter pledge towards Black Canaries today.

The reality is, this is how American independent films get made.  By asking.

Thank you for your support.

With Heart,
