Marty's Message

Many of our programs in the College of Professional Studies have strong ties to the community–from placing our graduates in successful careers to providing much needed services to individuals. The faculty, staff and students of the School of Communicative Disorders do this on a daily basis.

Graduate students are supervised by the ComD faculty and staff as they provide speech, voice and language assessments and therapy for children through adults at the on-campus clinic in the garden level of the CPS Building. Graduate students also work with faculty who  provide speech, voice, language and swallowing assessments and treatment to inpatients and outpatients at St. Michael's Hospital. In addition, graduate students provide the following services related to hearing:
  • hearing aid dispensing services
  • hearing screenings at Special Olympics
  • hearing screenings at the Lincoln Center
  • hearing screenings for local migrant workers' children who are at high risk for hearing loss
  • hearing screenings at local area schools
This semester, ComD graduate students are providing free hearing and voice screenings to university employees Sept. 30, Oct. 14 and Oct. 28 from noon-1 p.m. No appointment necessary. I am looking forward to my own results!
