CALL TO ACTION: Who Controls the City--The People or the Police?

Join us on Tuesday September 23rd at 9am at LAPD Police Commission meeting at LAPD headquarter located at 100 W. Main Street, Downtown Los Angeles across from City Hall.

LAPD’s Inspector General has now taken control over the drones!  This is one step closer to LAPD drones hovering over our communities.

On Monday Sept 15th a press conference was held by the Drone-Free LAPD/No Drones, LA! Campaign denouncing AB 1327, a California State legislation which authorizes the use of drones by law enforcement agencies throughout the state of California.  Several outlets reported, and you can visit the links below.

That same day, the Los Angeles Police Commission released a statement informing the media that their recently acquired drones are now in the hands of LAPD's Inspector General Alex Bustamante!  Now that LAPD has the drones, they claim that they will seek community input. LAPD wants to control the debate over their drone program, however, since they already have, and sought these drones--and have a history of investigating drone use abroad--they cannot be trusted to hold an honest, robust debate over their newly acquired drone technology.

Join us as we bring unfiltered community input to the police commission - People, not the police, control this city.

We demand the Police Commission:

1. Return the drones back to manufacturer or destroy them

2. Relinquish control of the public hearings to the community.

3. Thoroughly investigate the militarized intelligence gathering and surveillance apparatus of LAPD.

The California State legislature recently passed a bill - AB 1327, that authorizes the use of drones by law enforcement.  The bill awaits the governor’s signature who has until the end of September to either sign it into law or veto the bill. AB 1327 while masked under the guise of police seeking warrants to use drones, essentially authorizes and legitimizes the use of drones under myriad of situations and loopholes that would allow the use of drones for collection of information and surveillance.

While the whole country is demanding an end to police militarization, California state legislators supported by their “liberal/progressive” supporters are allowing the use of military style drone technology by local law enforcement.  We believe that AB 1327 normalizes the increasing militarization of law enforcement and will only make our communities less safe.  The Mayor of Los Angeles, who originally had stated that he will seek community input on the use of drones by LAPD has reneged on his commitment to the Angelenos and has also spoken in support of AB 1327.
