“One inmate wanted to know if he could send his book of stamps to help ARM.”

Dear Friends in Christ:

Prison ministries involve, among others, inmates and donors. Did you know that sometimes they are the same people? As I thank you for your loyal partnership, let me share a verse from Mark; it is about one
of the most famous widows in the Bible -- known for her generosity.

“And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.” (Mark 12:42)

Not only do I like this verse because it has my name in it (in the KJV) but also because it illustrates the Godly attitude of sacrifice Jesus commends!

I draw the above parallel to encourage you with the fact that inmates often show their gratitude by giving sacrificially to support prison ministries. Two instances here at ARM come to mind. One was about five years ago when the Joplin tornado had occurred. Here is part of an email from ARM’s Joe Welch, our Bible course program director:

“…Inmates have even written letters asking how they can provide financial assistance to A.R.M.  One inmate wanted to know if he could send his book of stamps to help ARM.  Another ABA student shared that a group of 20 Christians in the prison felt compelled to gather what funds they could and send it to ARM.  It is indeed humbling to think that inmates working for 15-20 cents an hour want to help friends and family of ARM who have suffered financial loss...”

In another instance, ARM received a donation from one of the most famous inmates in American history. Protecting donor confidentiality, I can’t mention his name, but be assured this inmate’s name became a household word because of his crime and his amazing conversion to Christ while in prison.

Very recently a sister prison ministry reported the same phenomena as a Christian inmate’s large gift from an inheritance humbled this ministry and funded many programs to help the lost in prison.

As we thank you for your gifts to ARM’s work, please realize that some of your “fellow donors” are the very people who know – first hand – how important those gifts to prison ministries really are!
