Dear Friends of the Living/Dying Project,

Thank you for your support - your support touches peoples lives. I would like to share what you have helped to create in the last 6 months. Below we have an update on our volunteers and a heartfelt story from Lori, one of our volunteers sharing her profound experience in assisting her client during cancer. We have some upcoming events and a new Tonglen and Compassion talk for you as well as a new book, Love Unfiltered.

Our Volunteers: We have 20 dedicated volunteers who have assisted approximately 900 clients this past year. We offer free-of-charge emotional/spiritual support to those with life-threatening illness. One of the most honoring gifts we can offer someone in need is to be lovingly present with them during their most challenging and vulnerable time. We now have volunteers in San Francisco as well as Alameda, Sonoma, Contra Costa and Marin counties. If you have someone in your life who would benefit from this kind of conscious and compassion support, please contact us at our office at 415 456-3915.

Volunteer’s Story:
As you know we touch peoples lives when they are at their most vulnerable, when they are dealing with a life-threatening illness…

Our volunteer Lori Ingram's story of her relationship with her client Renee,
A women deeply engaged in living while she explored and investigated
the shortened time frame of her life.

When I started working with Renee I knew just a little of her life and circumstances—that she had a rare form of muscle cancer she’d treated successfully with chemotherapy years earlier, but which had recently returned with a vengeance.  That she’d just purchased a home in Sonoma to be near her daughters and granddaughters after living in Berkeley for many years. That she wasn’t sure if she wanted to try and fight the cancer off again, especially if it meant undergoing the rigorous and debilitating chemotherapy regimen she’d endured before.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I met with her the first time, but I didn’t think I’d see a large new garden being planted in her back yard, a sunny open floor plan mobile home with beautiful, deeply saturated color on the walls, vivid paintings in equally brilliant colors… a new house in process of being redecorated into a home, and a woman deeply engaged in living while she explored and investigated the shortened time frame of her life… (read more)

Offerings:
We have a wonderful new guided Tonglen and Compassion talk that may assist you and your friends in deepening your practice.

Mike Murphy, who is a member of the Living/Dying Project Board of Directors, has written Love Unfiltered, a book that has just been released and that so beautifully describes the touching story of his wife Margot’s battle with cancer and the profound healing that her dying brought to her and to Mike. You can purchase the book by clicking here.

Mike’s foundation, the Love from Margot Foundation (www.lovefrommargot.com), offers financial, medical, and spiritual support to low-income and under-insured women who have been diagnosed with a woman's cancer in the San Francisco Bay Area and whom are struggling to make ends meet while undergoing treatment or are on the road to recovery.

With lots of love,
Dale Borglum
