TNP 4th Quarter News, 2014

Welcome Bays Mountain to TNP

Kingsport, TN

Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium joins the Tennessee Naturalist Program as the 8th chapter.  Bays Mountain is a 3,500 acre nature preserve located in Kingsport, TN.  The park features many enclosed native animal habitats, 40+ miles of trails, and all the natural beauty of East Tennessee. Chapter News

Around the state, chapters are continuing to educate citizens about the natural history of Tennessee.  Owl's Hill in Brentwood and South Cumberland Chapters have just begun their 5th and 3rd courses respectively. Reflection Riding Arboretum in Chattanooga has just wrapped up their 3rd course with 4 participants certifying while Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville will complete their 2nd course in November with 6 participants from last year's course receiving certification.

Resource Corner

Many resources exist that are dedicated to Tennessee Natural History. Visit Tennessee Watchable Wildlife to find out more about the armadillo hanging out in your driveway. Visit EEinTennessee to find more programs around the state that are dedicated to Environmental Education. To discover more about Tennessee frogs and toads, visit the LEAPS website. As a reminder, Pandy English, TNP Chair, has Bird and Frog Audio CDs, wildlife posters, and guides to Tennessee fish available for anyone. Check with your local chapter to inquire after these materials.

Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has recently developed the User's Guide for Evaluating Learning Outcomes from Citizen Science. This is a free guide and available to anyone who is interested in evaluating their citizen science programs.
