MEMBERSHIP VOTE ON PROPERTY SALE
Your Church Board unanimously presents the proposal to sell the 1.87 acre parking lot across 5th Street (across from Downtown Entrance) to the west of our main property for $3 million dollars for your approval, after considering, processing and revising this proposal prayerfully for some 9 months.  They send it to the active members of the Congregation with their recommendation for approval.  The voting will take place at a voting table on Saturday evening and at the conclusion of the 9 AM service Sunday morning.  Please note this statement in paragraph 113.1 of the Nazarene Manual:  Only those persons who are full and active members and have reached their 15th birthday shall be entitled to vote in church meetings.  This means members who are actively attending and involved in the church, and obviously can only vote once - either Saturday evening or Sunday morning.  We are on the honor system for your integrity!  Votes will be counted after Sunday School and not announced until Sunday evening's service and in NFocus Monday.

IF YOU NEED FURTHER INFORMATION - HERE IS A LINK TO THE "FACT SHEET" giving all details of the recommended sale approved by the Church Board:  http://nfcn.org/property-sale-fact-sheet

Sunday, 6:00 pm - SUNDAY NIGHT WORSHIP - MAIN SANCTUARY

NAZARENE MISSIONARIES PATRICK AND KIM LeGRAND AND FAMILY will be speaking - presently serving in Costa Rica and soon moving to Mexico South!  Don't miss this inspiring family presentation!

We are very proud of our own Carl Carlson and the Men of Valor prison ministry here in Nashville.. You can read about their amazing work in this editorial in last Sunday's Tennessean newspaper - link here.

Faye Speer is being inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame on Thursday, September 25, 2014, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  She joins her late husband, Brock, who was inducted in 1997.  Mom and Dad Speer, Ben Speer, Rosa Nell Speer Powell and Mary Tom Speer Reid are also members of the Hall of Fame.  If you want more information, you can go to http://www.sgma.org

It was wonderful to hear from Chris and Shelley (Cook) Cotton by written word:  "Thank you for loving us through the years as we married and pursued our call to ministry.  Thank you for your love and support as we follow our call around the world!  We are proud to be your son and daughter!  (signed) Chris, Shelley, and our boys"  Please keep them in prayer.  Shelley's parents are Rev. Tom and Sharon Cook, who also are part of our congregation.

It was good to have Pastor Lynn and Robin Holmes from our Memphis Calvary Church her on Sunday morning!  Lynn is a "son of our church" - and Ann Holmes' son! - and prayed the benediction.  They were here for the wedding of Kayla Steward and Josh Smith - we celebrate with these committed young adults as they begin their new life together.

52 of our teens and sponsors were involved in a meaningful spiritual retreat this past weekend! Pastor Matt Taylor gave us a positive report Sunday evening in the service.

"WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY"

I have long believed that the Holy Spirit offers moments of key decision-making in individual lives and in the life of congregations that become significant historical events, often determining the direction of that life or church.  Often, I would say usually, these are NOT created by either the individual of the church, but God somehow engineers circumstances and presents these "windows" of opportunity.  Windows can be opened (See Malachi 3:10 NLT for example) and in like measure they can be closed.  It has been my experience that they "close" after a season.

Nashville First Church faces such a moment of an "open window" this weekend, with the Property Sale vote.  I have said many times this is a "once a century" moment for our church, possibly the most important opportunity we've been faced with in our history.  We can move from this moment on a firm and stable financial foundation that was not sought by our Pastors or Board, but came to us as a surprise with no warning or expectation.  As your Pastors and Board have processed this opportunity since early January, it has become clear to us that the Holy Spirit has created this moment and offered it to us, hence the unanimous recommendation from the Board to you, the members, to approve this.  There is no way to adequately explain how this changes the trajectory of the ministry of NFCN - it is again a "window of opportunity" we believe God has presented to us.  We must now respond.

Please be focused in prayer as we move towards the weekend.  Pray for a mighty moving of the Spirit in our midst in these days, and a clear leading upon His people this weekend.  Many have been interceding in prayer for this hour in our history.  I humbly entreat you to join us.

Again, if you need to review the "Fact Sheet" on the proposal approved by the Church Board, please link here:  http://nfcn.org/property-sale-fact-sheet

I will be able to personally experience such a moment in the life of my Master's Degree alma mater - Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City - this next week, as on Thursday morning as Dr. Carla Sunberg will be officially inaugurated as the the 10th President of that institution.  God has raised up a woman of theological depth, leadership experience and holiness passion to lead our flagship theological Seminary.  What a moment that will be also!

Who knows what God has ahead for you, your local and international church, and His Kingdom?  Moments, "windows" of opportunity come to us occasionally.  Let us seize them for the advancement of His Kingdom.

Expectantly,

Pastor Ulmet

CHERYL'S LIST - TURNING EMPTY ROOMS INTO HOMES
Cheryl's List is growing! Referrals from social agencies, NFCN, and word of mouth have caused the work to double each month.  Because the 510 Foundation allocated a significant monetary gift to purchase mattresses and many people from NFCN and other interested individuals have donated used furniture in good condition, Cheryl's List has been able to "turn empty rooms into homes" for  families in difficult circumstances who are transitioning into housing, including honorably discharged veterans, single mothers with children, individuals with serious health problems, etc.  To serve effectively, Cheryl's List needs your prayers that God will continue to provide for the missional needs. These needs include:

1.  Donation of a  large, dry space (warehouse) to store and prepare items for delivery. (We've outgrown Eddie's 2-car garage!)
2.  Donations of furniture in good condition and funds to purchase mattresses and other household items.  (PayPal or in church offering)
3.  Volunteers with strong backs to help with furniture pickup and deliveries, usually in the evening.
Leave a message at 838-2197 to donate or volunteer.  Thank you for your continued support!
