     Beekeepers will talk about the importance of pollinators.

This month, enjoy local food events of all kinds:  

  • 2014 Fractal Maize Maze Grand Opening! Friday, Oct 3rd from 3-6pm at the Rio Grande Community Farm. Visit riograndefarm.org for details!
  • Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham is hosting a "Water Innovation Summit" on Oct. 14th from 8:30am to 5pm in the UNM Student Union Building. Register here.
  • Wagner Farms' first annual Apple & Pumpkin Festival runs Oct. 18-19th from 9am to 5pm. Join them at 5000 Corrales Road for good food and good times!
  • October is "Eat Drink Local Month!" There are lots of ways to get involved--take a challenge, enjoy the "Moveable Feast" up north and, of course, join in the Local Food Fest on Oct. 12th! Learn more here
  • Lao Food Tasting & Talk--Join SlowFoodABQ for a talk by journalist Karen Coates about the impact of war on farming in Laos and stick around for a Lao food tasting. Friday, October 17th from 6:30 to 8 pm at the ABQ Center for Peace & Justice, 202 Harvard SE, 87106. FREE event, but donations appreciated. RSVP so they know how much food to prepare!
  • It's National Co-op Month and the La Montanita Co-op Annual Member Meeting in Albuquerque is Oct. 18th. Space is limited; register here to attend the dinner and a talk on developing community wealth with Gar Alperovitz.
  • Oct. 25th is the Downtown Growers Market fundraiser, "Hops & Harvest," at Marble Brewery! With three bands, great beer, raffle prizes and more--it's sure to be a great time for a good cause! 
  • SAVE THE DATE--New Agrarian Career Connection & Social by Quivira Coalition & National Young Farmers Coalition. As part of the Quivira Coalition National Conference, this FREE event will be on Thursday, Nov. 13th from 6-9pm at the Embassy Suites in Albuquerque, NM. To participate or for more information, contact Virginie@quiviracoalition.org.
  • Visit Sandoval County this October to catch some scenic byways, the Corrales Growers Market, Indian Dances, Artist Demonstrations and more!

Local Papers Increase Local Food Focus


The Albuquerque Journal shares its take on New Mexico food with a couple of recent articles. Check out "Fresh Fix, Local Picks" and "Beer, Chow Prove Mutually Beneficial." 

Albuquerque Business First also dedicated a series of articles to local food business concerns including "The Business of Local Food" and "Does Albuquerque have too many farmers markets?"
