Arts Envisioning in Missouri & Joplin
Tuesday, September 30
5:30–7pm at Spiva Center for the Arts
An optional tour of Spiva's Main Gallery exhibition "Norman Rockwell: 323 Saturday Evening Post Covers" will be held from 5–5:30pm.
The past few years have seen significant changes in Joplin, as well as the state of Missouri. The arts have been part of this, evolving and growing to support the community. On September 30, Connect2Culture (C2C) will host a public meeting to gather input on the arts both locally and statewide. This meeting is held with the Missouri Arts Council (MAC), a state arts agency that is part of the Department of Economic Development. Leah Hamilton, Director of Arts Administration at Drury University, will facilitate the meeting. Joplin is one of eight communities MAC will visit this fall including Cape Girardeau, Columbia, Hannibal, Kansas City, St. Joseph, St. Louis, and Springfield.

Questions to consider will include:
  • What would help the arts thrive in our community?
  • What would help people participate in the arts?
  • What would an ideal state or local arts agency offer?
The focus of questions will address both state and local needs. We will facilitate a conversation that will provide key feedback to grow and strengthen local as well as statewide arts. This valuable insight will guide MAC’s strategic plan for FY2016-2018. In addition, C2C will receive feedback that will help build a community cultural vision. Together, we will imagine and create a future in which the arts grow and strengthen our quality of life, our economy, and our education. Our vision is one in which the arts are an integral part of public life.

Who is invited? Arts professionals, public office-holders, artists, and citizens interested in the development of arts locally and statewide.

We hope to see you there,

Emily Frankoski, Connect2Culture, Community Arts Coordinator
Sharon Beshore, Connect2Culture, Board President
