So You Know
"Misperceptions" of Ferguson Document Distributed by City of Ferguson In the Town Hall meetings on Monday which barred press and non-residents, the City of Ferguson distributed this document of 18 "misperceptions" of Ferguson and responses to each "misperception." This speaks for itself. Absolute must read.

Mother to Mother Black mother Danielle S. writes her frustrations of feeling that her white counterparts simply do not care about racial injustices taking place locally and nationally. "Your silence makes me not trust you. Your silence makes me feel like you do not care about the future of my brown boy. Your silence breaks my heart." Powerful, important, necessary read.

"Am I Next?" Time Magazine profiles a Ferguson teenager in this powerful 5 minute video. This video captures the essence and spirit of the protests.

Missouri Defense of Justification Statute Many dare to wonder why Darren Wilson is still a free man after gunning down unarmed teenage Mike Brown Jr. and in this article political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson lists a number of reasons why police often get away with killing unarmed civilians. "The ancient self-shielding uttered by the officer of the magic words, 'I feared for my life...'"

Mike Brown's Parents Campaign for Body Cameras in Atlanta This brief article describes the current campaign underway by Mike Brown's parents in Atlanta to campaign for the use of body cameras by the police in the wake of Kendrick Johnson's death.

Alive in Love Rev. Jeff Hood was deployed to Ferguson by the Cathedral of Hope in Dallas to minister and protect peaceful protesters. While experiencing the raw emotion of what happened early on in the protests, Rev. Hood wrote these profound words "The death of Michael Brown continues to grant new life to all who are willing to open their hearts."

Saint Louis County Police Apologize An apology has been issued by local police for the wording used in a flier for a seminar to help officers "win" with the media. The apology came after reporters started calling the station asking about racial undertones of certain phrases in the flyer such as, "Feeding the animals".

Michael Brown and Me Bishop Bloomer offers a personal reflection on his own experiences with police and pushes the reader to both personalize his/her relationship to the death of Mike Brown while remaining vigilant about demanding justice against all inequity.

In Defense of Looting In this incisive commentary, the author argues that looting (i.e. attack on property) is rooted in the tradition of American protest culture and that it is only when property is at stake that the American psyche responds. He argues that it was the looting, and not in spite of the looting, that the events in Ferguson took national attention. Fascinating arguments, must read. Re-posted by request.
