Pumpkin Sale - Sat., Sept. 20, 9-2:00
A local gardener has a surplus of pumpkins so offered them to the Library to sell. Most pumpkins will be $5.00.

Kindle Winner
The winner of the Amazon Kindle Raffle was Scott Kunesh from Liberty. He gave the prize to his 10-year-old daughter. She was thrilled! Thank you to everyone who bought tickets. Congratulations, Scott!

Ancestry.com - Tues., Sept. 30, 7:00pm
Barb Rehmeyer will teach a workshop about using Ancestry.com Library Edition. Ancestry.com is one of the MARVEL! databases, but unlike other databases, it is available only from within a public library; there is no access from home.  We have several computers to use or you can bring your own laptop. Space is limited so you may have to share computers.

Star Party - Sat., Oct. 18, 7:00 (Raindate- Sat., Oct. 25th) at Walker School
Ron Thompson from Cornerstones of Science will give a "what's up" in the October sky. Then we will go outside and look at the night sky and try-out our new telescope. Dress warmly, bring a flashlight, and a blanket.

At 4:00 at the library, Ron will hold a training for Library Volunteers about the care and use of the telescope so that patrons can borrow it.

New iPads in Children's Room
Have you and your children tried out the new iPads in the Children's Room yet? We would love to hear what you think of them. For the first time, we have a new Children's Room Policy. The iPads have necessitated a small change in the Computer Use and Internet Safety Policy. We will be updating those at the next Liberty Library Association meeting on September 23rd, and anyone who would like to have input on these policies is welcome to attend. The iPads were purchased with a grant from the Maine Community Foundation.

A Chair for Children's Room
Do you have a comfortable chair or love seat in good condition that you no longer need? Would you like to donate one to the library? We are in need of a chair for parents in our Children's Room. Parents are asked to be with their children but there is no comfortable place for them to sit. Please contact us beforehand so we can determine the chair's suitability.

Story Time- Thursdays at 10:30
Share the enjoyment of books and reading at preschool Story Time. It is a fun and safe environment for children and parent or caregiver to share time together at the library and to make new friends. There will be stories, songs, games, crafts, and a snack. See the new Fall Flyer for dates and themes.

MARVEL!
The new Single-Search-Box interface for searching the resources of MARVEL! is easier to use. The search box, located at the top of the page, searches content from resources and presents them in a unified result list. Maine's Virtual Library has thousands of magazines, newspapers, and reference books available within seconds - anywhere in the state of Maine.

Sheepscot Valley Quilters
The Sheepscot Valley Quilters are gearing up for a new year. They meet at the library the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm from September to June. Their first meeting will be September 16th. This is a small group of quilt lovers and makers - from beginners to advanced. The meetings are low-key and friendly and participation in projects is purely voluntary. Call Sue Chapin 589-4863 for more information.

Mittens & Hats for Kids
We are still collecting hats and mittens for distribution by Waldo Cap. There are patterns for a hat and three different size mittens at the library. Sue also left some yarn.

Property Search
I have great news for you! Neria Douglass, State Treasurer, wants you to know that their office holds more than $200 million in unclaimed property (financial property such as uncashed checks and forgotten bank accounts--not real estate or automobiles). Some of this money may belong to you or someone you know. Please take a few moments to search your name at www.maine.gov/upsearch and if you find your name, file a claim. Encourage your friends and relatives to do the same. Check back often as new properties are added regularly.

There is a link to this site and many popular state government links, on our library webpage under Maine eGov, along the left side, listed under 'Online Services'.

Volunteers Needed
The Liberty Library operates primarily by Volunteers. Some of our summer Volunteers are leaving so our "open" hours are dwindling. Have you ever thought about volunteering at the library? You have the option of volunteering weekly or Saturdays for two hours from 10-12:00 on a monthly schedule. If you have ever thought about volunteering, this would be a great time to start as we will be holding some trainings soon.

And for our summer residents, we wish you well. I'd like to share a passage from the Awanadjo Almanack on WERU:
Rank opinion - Some of us who live here year round may start to lose their sense of wonder after a time. After all, how often can you be dazzled by a moon-rise? That is why we need our Summer visitors with their genuine awe and wonder at the absolute grandeur and beauty around us every day: to remind us what a magic realm we inhabit here in these enchanted fields and forests and along these astonishing shores.
And next summer, I'll ...

See you at the Library,
Barb
