This week's sermon is "A Fool and His Money," based on the Parable of the Rich Fool found in Luke 12: 13-21.  You can listen to last week's sermon (along with other recent messages) by clicking here.

This Sunday, September 21, we're honored to welcome Rev. John Mobley, Regional Minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Alabama and Northwest Florida.  At 9 AM, Rev. Mobley will make a presentation about the ministries of the region to the Disciples Class in the Fireside Room; any and all are invited to join the Disciples Class for this special opportunity.  Rev. Mobley will also bring a word of greeting from the region to the congregation during morning worship.

Join Us For Homecoming!
On Sunday, October 5, we will celebrate our 140th year as a church in Birmingham, Alabama. This special Homecoming service will include a sermon by Rev. Jim Brooks, a past associate minister of the church.   Following the service, the Fellowship Mission is providing a great Homecoming Dinner of a meat and three vegetables, dessert and drink. The cost for the meal is $7.50 for adults, $3.00 for children 5-10 years old, and  children under 5 are free. Please make your meal reservations by contacting the church office at 991-5000 or info@fcc-bhm.org.  Homecoming is a great opportunity to invite old and new friends alike to worship.

Caring and Sharing, our women's fellowship group, will meet on Tuesday, September 23, at the home of Sandy Hamilton.  Join us at 6:30 p.m. as we care, share, laugh and pray.  It's our annual "Soups 'n' September" which is always a special evening.  For more information call Kathey Long 205-823-0252.  We'd love to have you join us!

NEW FCC PICTORIAL DIRECTORY

We need your help in creating a new pictorial directory for First Christian Church.  We are inviting all members, friends, and active participants to give a few moments of your time to have your picture taken for this project.

Professional photographers will take portraits at the church on Tuesday, Oct. 14; Wednesday, Oct. 15; Friday, Oct. 31; and Saturday, Nov. 1.  All appointments should be made online HERE.  If you require help in making your online appointment, you may either contact Chris in the church office at 991-5000, or stop by the computer table in the narthex before or after worship on any Sunday in September.

Our new directories will be available before Christmas.  Every participating family or individual will receive a free 8” x 10” photograph of your picture that is used in the directory.  You will also have the opportunity to purchase additional portraits from Lifetouch, but you will be under no obligation to do so.

Thank you in advance for being a part of this important project.  Remember, our directory isn’t complete without YOU!
Click here to make your appointment now!

Rehearsals for bell choir will be on Sunday afternoon’s at 3:00 p.m. and continue through November.   Bell Choir Sunday will be on November 30.   If you've ever wanted to make beautiful music but don't know how, this is your chance. No experience needed, just a desire to have fun, fellowship, and worship with music. See you there, I hope! In Christ, Jan

Dear Friends at First Christian Church,
On behalf of the entire Vincent Elementary School family, please accept my sincere thanks for your thoughtful gift of book bags filled with school supplies for our very special students.  Each year you bless us in this manner and our children and their families are so grateful.
Thanks again for your thoughtful generosity.
Linda Campanotta, Principal., Vincent Elementary.
Mr. Pasky & First Christian Church,
Thank you so very much for the backpacks and supplies again this year!  I am happy to let you know that ALL of the backpacks were given to families this year.  Please know that your gracious giving hearts touched lives in our community.
Thank you!  Calera Elementary Faculty.

Interested in a fun, creative outlet?  Then come join us on Saturday, September 27, to learn how to paint on silk!  Julie Jennings is coming from Atlanta to teach this class at our church.  Julie is an incredible teacher who makes this art easy and fun to do.

Here are the particulars:

  • A full day class from 8:00 – 4:00.  If you choose this option you will paint a large scarf or you can make two smaller ones.  The price for this is $100 and we will need a deposit of $50 to hold your spot.

  • Julie will also be offering a class from 8:00 – 12:00.  This option will allow you the time to make one smaller scarf.  The charge for this is $50 and we will need a deposit of $25 to hold your spot.

  • The deposit money, which is non-refundable, will be used to purchase the materials you will use for your scarf.  Julie will bring all of the materials we need.

Please reserve your space prior to the class beginning, by writing a check made out to Julie Jennings or by cash (in an envelope with your name please!). Our church secretary, Chris McCayna, will receive your deposits.  Or can send your deposit to Sally Mickle.  Please call Sally if you have any questions.  She will be able to help. 567-2400.  Or you can call me at 999-3224.

Hoping to see you on September 27 for a fun day of painting!
Nancy DeVore
