Summer, Summer, Summertime!
“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you” - Nathaniel Hawthorne
While Summertime draws to an end, I hope that it was restful and productive. Since
Dr. Naomi Eason’s Alameda County Superintendent of Schools race ended, my core business has been pretty slow. Nevertheless, I have still been pretty busy. Here are some of the highlights:
July 2014
I had the pleasure of serving as a host for my dear friend, Y’Anad Burrell’s,
Fashion on the Square (“FOTS”) fashion show. This was the show’s 10
th Anniversary and it took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in San Francisco. Please visit their
Facebook page or
theRegistry for photographs and more information regarding the event.
August 2014
The Bronze Report is a Northern California Emmy Award winning show that airs on Comcast Channel 104 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 5:30pm. It his hosted by Barbara Rodgers and Janice Mabry, both formerly with KPIX. They did a special show called
Blacks in Technology that featured Rev. Jesse Jackson, MC Hammer, Erik Moore, Kumi Rauf, and myself. We talked about diversifying Silicon Valley, venture capitalism, Oakland’s growing and thriving tech center, and social media. Please either tune in or visit
Blacks in Technology to see the 30 minute program.
September 2014
This month is already off to a great start. Wednesday, I co-hosted and emceed the annual
Men of Emerge fundraiser. Yesterday, I was interviewed on
KPOO’s
Give Life Save Life Radio program hosted by Keith Crawford, representing the
African American Wellness Project. There, I was asked about the impact of September 11,
2001 on my life, my thoughts about the Roy Rice/NFL scandal, domestic violence, and suicide. It was a great program and if you would like to listen to it, please visit
here.
Next month, I will host my
7th Annual Outdoor Jazz/Networking Event with SF Jazz at Levi Plaza on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at noon. For tickets and more information, please visit the link above. In addition, I will teach another personal branding utilizing social media class at
Positive Images Photography Studio with Gisele Bonds. The tentative date is set for Thursday, October 2, 2014, from 6pm-8pm. More details to come.
Lastly, I was supposed to be on a panel this month at the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington D.C. but decided to participate in an Executive Leadership Training that starts the same week instead. I am raising the funds to cover the expenses of this training, which will essentially allow me the opportunity to serve the community better than I already am. Please visit
here and contribute whatever you can to assist. Many thanks!
I hope that you are achieving all of your goals and pray that I can be instrumental in your success. Thank you for supporting my newsletter and I look forward to networking with you soon.
Very truly yours,
KLN
