Artist Spotlight
Kent McLaughlin and Suze Lindsay

Kent and Suze are both studio potters and one of the couples featured in TWO. Here are their answers to the questions we posed to our creative duos.

How did you meet?
In 1991, we were studio assistants for Cynthia Bringle at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine.
How long have you been together?

23 years
Do you share studio space?
Yes, we share a 2000 square foot studio that is next  our home in Bakersville. We each have our own separate working areas, use different kinds of clays, and we each have our own kilns.
Do you ever collaborate and/or are you influenced by your partner's work?
We occasionally collaborate, and it is fun to see the other person respond to something you start, and change it from how you might finish a piece.  We both have a deep respect for each others work and processes. Because we see each other making and creating every day, what influences we have upon each other are unconscious, and we might not notice it until much later.
Anything you would like the viewer to know about life as a creative couple?
We feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have created a wonderful lifestyle together that supports us professionally and personally.
