SEMI-FINALS WEEKEND COMING UP

Nachdem die NLB am vergangenen Samstag souverän die Bandits gesweeped haben, stehen sie diesen Samstag im Halbfinal. Auch das NLA-Team trägt am Samstag das dritte Spiel der best-of-five Halbinalserie aus. Nach einem Sieg und einer Niederlage steht noch alles offen. Ebenfalls im Einsatz steht am Samstag das Team der 1. Liga - und dies endlich vor heimischem Publikum auf dem Heerenschürli in Zürich.

C's WIN SERIES OPENER

The Challengers won the opener of their best-of-five semi-final series with the Therwil Flyers on Saturday, September 13, as the C's rallied for a 4-3 victory at Therwil. The team of head coach Chris Palatinus trailed by two runs in the seventh, as Bryan Shemley and Ryan Byrne reached base, before Amado Tomas Tabilis hit a bomb over the left field fence for a three-run homer to make it 4-3. Ryan Byrne tossed a complete game for his first postseason win with the C's.

CHALLENGERS LOSE GAME 2 IN EXTRA INNINGS

The Therwil Flyers tied the best-of-five semi-final series with the Challengers at 1-1, after winning Game 2 2-1 on Sunday, September 14 at the Heerenschürli in extra innings. The C's tied the game in the bottom of the eight inning, as Tobias Siegrist drove in Jesus Martinez with two outs. And the C's had the winning run on second base in the ninth and the tenth innings, but couldn't cash in. The Flyers scored the go-ahead run with one out in the top of the eleventh inning on an error by the C's defense. In the bottom half of the frame Francisco Colindres reached base and advanced to second with two outs, as Jesus Martinez drew a walk after falling behing 0-2 in the count, but the Flyers worked out of the jam.
Game 3 will take place on Saturday, September 20 at Therwil, while Game 4 will be played on Saturday, September 27 at 7 pm at the Heerenschürli ballpark. In the other semi-final series the Zürich Barracudas have a 2-0 lead over the Lucerne Eagles.

NLB-TEAM SWEEPS BANDITS, QUALIFIES FOR SEMI-FINAL

The NLB-Team won twice on Saturday, September 13 at the Heerenschürli ballpark to sweep the Jona Bandits in their best-of-three quarter-final series. The Challengers took Game 1, as they posted a 7-2 win over the Bandits. Oli Christen held the Bandits under control to secure the 16th win of the year. And the C's added an 18-6 victory, as they scored four runs in the second frame and added eleven in the third to put things out of reach.
The Sissach Frogs and the Zürich Barracudas also qualified for the semi-finals, while the series between the Wil Devils and the Hünenberg Unicorns will start on Sunday.

LADIES' SEASON ENDED BY EAGLES

The Zürich Softball Team has been eliminated by the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, September 13, as the Eagles swept Zürich in their best-of-three semi-final series. The Eagles' bats exploded for 22 runs, as they posted a 22-8 victory in Game 1, before ending Zürich's season with a 7-1 success in Game 2.

BASEBALL NLA at FLYERS

The Challengers and the Therwil Flyers will meet for Game 3 of their best-of-five semi-final series on Saturday, September 20 at Therwil. After winning 4-3 in the opener at Therwil thanks to a three-run homer by Amado Tomas Tabilis in the seventh, the Flyers answered with an extra-inning win in Game 2 at Zürich to tie the series at 1-1. Game 3 will start at 2 pm at Therwil Känelmatt.
Die Challengers und die Therwil Flyers bestreiten am Samstag, 20. September in Therwil Spiel 3 ihrer best-of-5 Halbinalserie. Nachdem die Challengers das Startspiel der Serie in Therwil dank einem Three-run Homerun von Amado Tomas Tabilis im siebten Inning mit 4-3 gewannen, antworteten die Flyers mit einem Erfolg nach Extra-Innings in Spiel 2 in Zürich zum 1-1 Ausgleich in der Serie. Spiel 3 beginnt um 14.00 Uhr in Therwil Känelmatt.

BASEBALL NLB at FROGS

The NLB-Team will play the Sissach Frogs in a best-of-three semi-final series. After sweeping the Jona Bandits in the quarter-final series the NLB-Team will try to advance to the NLB finals with two wins on Saturday, September 20 at Sissach. The Challengers finished ahead of Group B with a 15-1 record, while the Frogs came in second place in Group A with a 11-5 reccord. The games start at 11 am and 2 pm at Sissach Tannbrunn.
Das NLB-Team spielt in einer best-of-3 Halbfinalserie gegen die Sissach Frogs. Nachdem die Challengers im Viertelfinale die Jona Bandits mit 2-0 ausschalteten, geht es nun am Samstag, 20. September in Sissach um den Finaleinzug. Die Challengers beendeten die Vorrunde an der Spitze der Gruppe B, während die Frogs den zweiten Rang in der Gruppe A erreichten. Spielbeginn für Game 1 und 2 ist um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr in Sissach Tannbrunn.

The SG TruckStar/Challengers will face the Zürich Barracudas and the Yverdon Golgoths on Saturday, September 20 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The 1st League-Team won one of two games against both opponents so far in 2014 and will try to battle for ninth place in the standings. The games start at 10 am and 12.30 pm.
Die SG TruckStar/Challengers trifft am Samstag, 20. September im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli auf die Zürich Barracudas und die Yverdon Golgoths. Das 1. Liga-Team holte gegen beide Gegner in dieser Saison einen Sieg aus zwei Partien und kämpft nun um Rang neun in der Platzierungsrunde. Spielbeginn ist um 10.00 und 12.30 Uhr.

Eine wichtige Investition für den Sport
Die Erneuerung der Sportanlage Heuried bedeutet für den Breiten-, Jugend- und Vereinssport in Zürich eine wichtige und langersehnte Investition für die Zukunft. Mit einem Objektkredit von 81 Millionen Franken sollen Eis- und Badeanlage erneuert werden. Für den Vereinssport ist eine Eissporthalle mit einer Zuschauerkapazität von 300 Personen geplant. Die Halle verdoppelt die Eiskapazität, da sie bis zu 11 Monate pro Jahr betrieben werden kann.
Weiter umfasst der Neubau Restaurant, Garderoben, Gymnastik– und Kraftraum, aber auch Betriebs- und Technikräume. Die Sportanlage Heuried vereint als eine der grössten und ältesten Freizeitanlagen in der Stadt Zürich Freibad, Eisfelder sowie Fussballplätze im Wohnquartier Friesenberg.
Stadt- und Gemeinderat empfehlen die Vorlage einstimmig zur Annahme. (Bild Stadt Zürich)
