Montessori Moment

Transition, Growth, and Charlotte’s Web by Jennifer Rogers
Excellent blog articles are published on www.mariamontessori.com
Here is an excerpt from this month's blog: â€œI know the way to elementary, mom.  That’s not the point,” my wise six year old said.  She was looking at the rain fall outside her window, not crying, but there were tears in her eyes. “It’s just going to be hard.” Transitions are hard for people, especially for children... we know her story continues.

Cross Country News

THANK YOU to all our volunteers, CAPE helpers, coaches, and runners who participated in the MSBG Regional Cross Country Invitational! It was exceptional. Special thanks to Megan Prybylski for her passion in leading this event and programming.

The cross country team traveled to Bettsville last Saturday and competed against several other elementary schools in the Lakota Invitational. This cool September morning didn’t stop the Mustangs from running with determination to get t
o the finish line.

There were 46 girl runners in grades K-3rd that competed in the 1/2 mile race. Libby Barnett led our team and finished 13th overall in a time of 3:27. Finishing next for the Mustangs was Kora Rollins. Kora finished in 29th place in a time of 4:07. Close behind Kora was Marilyn Iott. Marilyn finished 38th in a time of 4:33. The 4th-6th grade boys and girls ran 1 mile. In the girls race, Hannah Castor led the Mustangs and finished 23rd overall, out of 59 girls, in a time of 8:09. Finishing next for our team was Katie Oestreich in a time of 8:24 and Maddie Cleland in a time of 9:38. In the boys race, Jackson Krueger finished 8th overall out of 65 runners. Jackson achieved his personal best in a time of 6:59 and received a medal. Finishing in 16th place was Jeremy Mahoney in a time of 7:15 and in 39th place was Silas Nietz in a time of 8:13.  The Middle School students also ran! Both JJ and Alexa ran their best times of the year! JJ ran first in the Jr. High boys race and ran a 16:13, while Alexa ran next in the Jr. High girls race running a 15:33. They are working hard and it is really starting to show.

Peace PALs

Peace PALs is a unique program at MSBG and it 'kicks off' this morning with our International Day of Peace assembly (please wear red!).

In Montessori methodology, 'peace' means three things: learning to respect yourself, learning to respect others and learning to respect the environment, both indoors and out."

The Peace PALS program is where  kindergarten through eighth-graders get together twice a month on Friday mornings. Each group of PALs has a mixture of students from each grade level. The students in the upper grades act as peer leaders and advisers for their group of seven to eight students.

Peace PALs stands for Promoting Excellence and Character Education through Peer Advising Leaders. Group leaders meet with teacher advisers who present topics and help the leaders brainstorm ways to teach that concept. Concepts deal with core ethical values such as fairness, honesty, compassion, responsibility, and respect for self and others.
