Hackathon special

The policy of the City of Brussels includes the promotion of Open Data. A hackathon will be held in Brussels to make these data known and to stimulate their use (eg applications for smartphones, websites...).

Brussels Open Data Hackathon

On Friday 17 and Saturday 18 October 2014, developers, graphic designers and ordinary citizens come together during a hackathon to develop online services or ideas for apps. At the end of the second day, the participants present their developed app or service to a jury of experts. There are prizes for:
  • the best idea
  • the best prototype
  • the application that uses most data together
The participants at the Brussels Open Data Hackathon will have the opportunity to use the Open Data of the City of Brussels and other public institutions.

And women?

Women are often less present in events like hackathons. To encourage their participation in the Brussels Open Data Hackathon, a workshop will be organized by Transforma bxl on Monday 13 October 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm. The event is part of the Girls Code Europe campaign.

Open Data Platform of the City of Brussels

At the address opendata.brussels.be everyone can find the data, export them in various formats, and if necessary consult them in the form of a map or graphs that can be shared or integrated into a website. The data can also be used through a programming interface.

The data are quite varied. It involves services of the City, elected officials, environment, mobility, cleanliness, culture, education, tourism, health, seniors, persons with disabilities, the municipal activity in digital communication.
