Living Springs

Mission Vision
Celebration

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19

9:15-10:30 am (between services)

Something big is happening in the life of Living Springs.  So, let’s celebrate!
The Mission Vision that was shaped by the Holy Spirit and over 200 of our fellow members over the last year is a reality. While ministry has been happening since the founding of our congregation 26 years ago – since the church was born nearly 2000 years ago, with this vision for mission, we as disciples are affirmed to carry out the ministry as the Spirit is tugs each of our hearts.  That’s exciting … and something significant to celebrate in the history of our congregation!
So, let’s celebrate with a served, sit-down, family-style brunch between worship services on October 19.  The Celebration will take place from 9:15-10:30. While we eat we will see the results of the Mission Vision for Living Springs through sharing by various congregation members, DVD and PowerPoint.
Save the date and plan to attend and even if you don’t wish to eat, we ask you to attend this important event in the life of our congregation.

To confirm your household attendance, please call the church office (736-0661), or sign-up in the narthex, or respond on-line.  Please confirm by October 15.

Defensive Driver Training Course

Saturday, September 27

Some auto insurance carriers will give you a 10% - 15% discount if you take a driver safety course. LS is hosting a Defensive Driver Training Course led by AARP on Saturday, September 27th. You do not need to be a member of AARP and the class is open to all ages! The six hour session will cost $15/person if you are a member of AARP and $20 per person if not. We will need a minimum of 10-15 people for the class. Sign up in the Narthex. Contact Jeff Lummel.

Flu Shot Clinic

Sunday, September 28

Juli Bales, a pharmacist for Rite Aid, will be holding a flu shot clinic at Living Springs on Sunday, September 28th.  The shots will be administered after both services in the fellowship hall.  Please complete the registration form and place in the Social Inreach mailbox in the workroom so that Juli can estimate the number of doses she’ll need.  The forms are located in the back of the narthex and on a clipboard in the Education Building.  Rite Aid will bill your insurance company.  For insurance that does not cover the shot, they can be offered for $22 if we have a minimum of 50 people. If parents would like for their child to receive a flu shot, they can fill out the form for the child, and Juli will contact the pediatrician for the prescription (this is required by law).  She also hopes to have the nasal spray vaccines available for people who are not fond of needles. Juli is the daughter of Ted and Gail Buchanan.
If you have any questions, please contact Retha Murray @ 699-9075

Crafty Ladies

2nd & 4th Saturdays of the Month

Looking for someone to share your crafting time with?  Bring your knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, or join us in making quilts for Lutheran World Relief, women’s shelters, and female veteran homes.  We tie our quilts so sewing experience is not a factor if you would like to participate – in fact, we have several ladies who are not sewer’s but enjoy the fellowship of other ladies.  Our group meets in the Fellowship Hall the second and fourth Saturday of the month at 9:30 am and usually end about 11:30 am.  We would also appreciate any fabric donations and/or blankets (we use these as fillers).  Contact Beverly Hoppert for information.

Lessons

First Reading: Jonah 3:10—4:11

After Jonah's short sermon in 3:4, the Ninevites all repented and God decided to spare the city. Jonah objected to this and became even more angry when God ordered a worm to destroy a plant that was providing shade. The book ends with a question that challenges any who are not ready to forgive: You, Jonah, are all worked up about a bush, but should not I be concerned about a hundred and twenty thousand Ninevites who do not know the difference between their right and left hands?

Psalm (ELW): Psalm 145:1–8

The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. (Ps. 145:8)

Second Reading: Philippians 1:21–30

Paul writes to the Philippians from prison. Though he is uncertain about the outcome of his imprisonment, he is committed to the ministry of the gospel and calls on the Philippians to live lives that reflect and enhance the gospel mission.

Gospel: Matthew 20:1–16

Jesus tells a parable about God's generosity, challenging the common assumption that God rewards people according to what they have earned or deserve.
