Parke Diem

This Saturday, October 11th, 9-12

Help us put the Park "to bed" for the winter and maintain Harper's Playground for play every day. Parke Diem is a fun, City-wide effort to engage neighbors in caring for their parks. Sign up online for prizes including a T-shirt, coupons from Columbia Sportswear and more. To sign up, just follow the link below and choose "community," then "Arbor Lodge Park," and then follow prompts through completion. Thanks for joining us for a morning of fun public service. http://parklandia.org/parkediem

More opportunities to know your neighbors

Looking to add some art to your life? Meet Arbor Lodge artists Shyama Helin, Alison Foshee, Christopher Wagner and Heather Fields during Portland Open Studios this month, and maybe bring some art home too! October 11, 12, 18 & 19.  More details here.

Gardeners and Fruit Folks needed at the Saratoga Community Garden
We need volunteers to help weed around beds, tend/water our winter crop, make trail and garden pathway improvements, drop and/or spread mulch. We really need fruit tree/grape/ berry people to help us grow a healthier crop next year by proper pruning, latticework, and training. Find us on Saratoga between Villard & Curtis, or on Facebook: Saratoga Community Garden, or contact ALNA Board member NicoleLeggett32{at}gmail.com.

Friends of Lombard Walktoberfest
Let's Re-Imagine Lombard! More crossings, nicer sidewalks, public spaces, safer speeds...these are just a few of the changes that could make Lombard a better street for people. Join the Friends of Lombard and make new friends while learning about the challenges and opportunities of remaking North Lombard Street. This walk will start Tuesday, October 14, 5:30pm at the Max station at Interstate, go West along Lombard St, and end at the Foggy Notion bar at 3416 N Lombard Street. For those 21 and over, we can share a drink and discuss the future of Lombard Street.

Peggy's Fall Plant Exchange is a great place to get your garden started, redistribute your extra plants/bulbs/cuttings and meet your neighbors. This year, learn about mason bees, and bring a basket to take home some grapes. No need to bring a plant to be able to take one home; there are always more than enough plants that generous folks want to give away. Everyone Welcome !!
Date: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Time: 11:00 AM-2:00 PM
Place: 7045 N Concord Av
Ques: call Peggy at 503-289-6295

It's time to plant bulbs for spring! Support our local PTA by purchasing your next set of spring flowering beauties from Flower Power Fundraising.
50% of all sales come back to the Chief Joseph Ockley Green PTA and Flower Power will ship direct to the buyer's house for a flat rate of $5.00.

More Trees for Arbor Lodge - According to a recent PSU study, Portland's urban forest reduces air pollution - so why not add to the forest? Friends of Trees is offering trees for $25 each for your parking strip. That's a great deal - it includes the inspection, permits, and delivery of a healthy young tree right to your planting hole. Check out FriendsofTrees.org/plant or call them at 503-282-8846. Cleaner air for our 'hood, places for birds to hang out, shade, beauty - what's not to like?

We voted to endorse the Parks Replacement Bond, Measure 26-159. If the bond passes, it won't raise taxes and the money will go towards fixing and maintaining things like our area pools, restrooms and other infrastructure. In the words of Commissioner Fritz at our last meeting, "If it's not disgusting, we won't spend money on it!" Learn more here.
