Hi and welcome to our October edition of Scene. Last month a number of BTG members went to support two of our members who were performing in "Phantom of the Opera" at the Ipswich Civic centre. Lauren Lee Innis- Youren and Robert Shearer were absolutely wonderful as Christine and the Phantom and a fabulous night was had by all who came. Photo by Jackie Fry

Member's Noticeboard:
Submissions for 2016:
Are you interested in a production role for 2016? Did you have a submission idea which didn’t make it into the 2015 calendar?
After a bumper crop of submissions for 2015, our artistic team is looking at an earlier timeline for cementing the following year’s program. Frankly – we just couldn’t fit everything in! Also, it also seems that theatre in our region is quite healthy given the number of refusals we got on rights applications because other groups already had the shows we wanted.
So we have decided to start taking applications/ proposals earlier for 2016. In fact we are happy to have them sent to Roslyn (artistic team coordinator) or Nikki (secretary) at any time during the next nine months!
Contents of proposals -
- Proposals should list a suggested production team and preferably come from the director of the team. The director’s experience should be listed. Traditionally a director of a mainhouse show should have directed at another group, OR been an assistant director at BTG AND have directed a oneact play for the drama festival. This checklist needs to be considered.
- The submission should also identify a demographic that exists in the BTG audience base who the production will connect with, and possible marketing strategies specific to the performance.
- A possible design concept and the identification of specialist items and people to create/source them is also helpful.
- If the show is a musical we need to know whether you will work to live music or recorded, and whether it is something which needs the BTG orchestra.
- Requests/availabilities for specific timeslots for the FOUR mainhouse production spots (1. Feb/March, 2. April/May, 3. June/July, 4. Oct/Nov)
- An awareness of other times/places the same show will be performed in Qld and in our region by both professional and local companies.
- Any budgetary considerations.
Put your thinking caps on and if there’s a show you want to see/do in 2016 start putting together the info we need in the decision-making process. It’s not easy, but the more information we have, the better our decisions can be for the group’s artistic and financial future.
