Client Spotlight: Fellowship of Christian Athletes celebrates 60 years of sports ministry

By Laurie Bollig (@LaurieBollig)
Director, Communications and Events

As the world’s largest sports ministry, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) works globally with athletes and coaches from professional sports all the way through youth sports.

Throughout the last decade, Premier has forged a special business relationship with the FCA while providing leadership in the areas of communications, events and brand strategy.

"FCA is much more than a client to us," said Gary Heise, CEO of Premier. "It is an amazing ministry filled with wonderful people who are making a significant impact all over the world. Sharing our talents to help FCA achieve its mission is something our team at Premier loves doing and it fits perfectly within the values we pursue as a company."

Most recently, Premier was hired to assist with an evolved brand positioning and identity platform. The impact of the plan will elevate the visibility and brand cohesion of the world’s largest Christian sports organization during its 60th anniversary year and beyond.

Premier delivered a comprehensive plan that included a situation analysis, an evolved brand positioning statement and recommendations on the ongoing management of the FCA brand. In addition, Premier provided a roadmap for how FCA’s various brands (i.e., camps, programs, ministries) will work in harmony and an identity system that will encompass a launch strategy.

Premier plays a key role in the production of two FCA events that are very important to the organization's continued growth. We assist with FCA’s major donor event – President’s Weekend – and also with its national conference for staff – Realtime. These events are “jobs” that we consider essential to our business at Premier. While there is work involved, the benefits we reap being part of something bigger than ourselves are truly humbling.

"Working with Premier Sports Management is truly a great experience. We have worked together the past 10 years with our national events as well as in the areas of branding, media and public relations including crisis management," said Nancy Hedrick, executive vice president of communications and events. "They are not only true experts in their fields, but trusted partners. We always enjoy working with their entire team."

To say it has been a match made in heaven might be a little too cliché, but partnering with the FCA over the last 10-plus years has certainly been a blessing for Premier.

Premier staff stays active in the community through volunteer service

The staff at Premier has a long history of giving back to the community in service. CEO Gary Heise (@GaryHeise1) is active in advisory roles with several cause-related organizations, including Samaritan's Feet, Convoy of Hope, FCA and the Dream Factory in addition to his church.

President Mike Goff (@rmgoff) has served on the boards of the Ronald McDonald House and Starlight Theatre in addition to remaining an active contributor, teacher and mentor to the University of Kansas journalism school. He is also a regular guest lecturer at William Jewell College.

Vice president Erik Miner (@erik_miner) and director Laurie Bollig (@LaurieBollig) still have kids in the house, so most of their time is spent chasing them. Erik is a youth soccer coach for both his girls. He and his family also participate in several charitable causes together, specifically Samaritan’s Feet. Laurie devotes her time to her church and the high school her kids attend in both leadership and communications roles, chairing several parent groups and helping coordinate fundraising activities.
